If I get a used Dish setup can I watch the NASA channel in the clear without authorization?

I actually believe that yes you can.

I had hooked up a new receiver last year and was able to watch Nasa before I had activated it.

YES

I hooked up a week ago (updating all my old mothballed receivers with the newest software)
3000
4000
5000
301

All got the following in the clear off 119
-101 (remote help)
-213 (NASA)
-262 (Angel One)

I didnt check all of it, but these 3 did come in

There's a lot more than the NASA Channel up there, take a look at PSBs thread for system prices etc:

With an inexpensive Free To Air system there are literally hundreds of other, free channels up there, no subscription needed.
