My remote still lights up, but won't control anything

Guys,

I have a VIP612 controlled by a 6.4 IR/UHF remote. Today, it quite controlling anything. All of a sudden it doesn't control the Dish receiver, the tv or the stereo that it has controlled for years. The batteries are fine and the lights all still light up. Any idea? Do remotes just go bad (or reset) like this? At first I thought it might just be the connection with the Dish receiver, but then realized it was controlling nothing at all.

Any ideas on what I can test/try?

Since remotes are so inexpensive particularly on Ebay just getting another one is an option. But I would try new batteries no matter that the led's light up if you have not. Since the TV is programmed into it also, push the TV button and see if it will control the TV. In fact pushing the TV button and going back to the Sat button is something to try. And yes a remote can just stop working.

3 batteries were fine, but 1 had crapped the bed. I replaced all of them and it worked. Sorry for the obvious problem.
