My ongoing issue on a single TP

I havnt had much time for the dish the last few months but since I set it up I've have issues on a single TP!!! I have posted and everyone has given me good advice such as water in the connectors etc etc. I think I figured it out. Tell me what you think. See below.


There is a big airport 2 miles southwest of me. Is my dish catching the radar when it spins and causing me to lose the channel for a split second??? The meter will drop for a split second and then right back to 74% in a like clockwork fashion.

In a purely unscientific opinion, I think that's what it is. Or something else from the airport.

I could live with the tiling, I usually only have a TV on for background noise anyway but when that audio breaks up its infuriating.

Have you done everything to bring up the S/N for that TP? Skew, F/D, scaler position, centering LNB/F, etc? Maybe a metal fence or something similar between your dish and the airport... ? Could also be something reflecting the radar from nearby beside/behind the dish reflecting it t words your feedhorn. This is where F/D adjustments are critical, both the feed horn opening to dish measurement, and scaler to dish measurement. Takes some patience sometimes to get them dialed in.

Yup.
I live less than a mile from the main shipping channel of the St Lawrence Seaway,every time a ship goes by you can forget about watching anything on a horizontal xponder.Sometimes it's only a minute but can be up to 10,depending on the power of the ships radar.

I get this occasionally on different satellites. Usually, it hits on SES2 (Luken). I'll be watching something, and the signal will either drop completely out or it will drop partially. It usually last a couple seconds, and it's back to normal. I've also seen a rock solid signal in the high 80's and the picture breaking up for no apparent reason. I've also seen it on Galaxy 19 and SES1. Where I live, there is no airport within 25 air miles from me, but it's on the north side of the mountain, which is on the opposite side from where my house is.

Digital is great for carrying multiple channels on a single transponder, but it will never be as stable as analog signals. I've seen 2 feet or more snow on our dish in the analog days and at worst it got a grainy picture, and I've seen an inch of wet snow on the same dish after switching to digital and it lost signal completely. Digital is completely unreliable when the weather is really bad. If you need a tornado warning or severe weather alert, you better keep a weather radio handy.

I mean, when I setup the dish I tried my best to fine tune. It is my first go with c-band but its been really stable. I got it tracking the arc really well. Calculated fd and tested a couple different positions and picked the strongest. One of these weekends when its so nice I can't stand being indoors I'll give fine tuning another try or a fence to obstruct, at least as a test. Thanks!

Would it be your dish, or your cabling, that would be catching the interference?

At what HF and RF frequency does it occur, BTW?

Dish is pointed almost exactly in the direction of the airport. Im sure dish is catching.

I dont remember, actually I forgot what bird I'm pointed at. I'm on the mix with laff, bounce, justice etc etc, 103 maybe? I forget. Spring has arrived here it seems. Hopefully I get out there soon.
