The more comments I read about this new HD-DVR, the more apprehensive I become! My new unit is going to be installed on October 2nd.

I wish that all people who produce hardware (& software!) would stop shipping out stuff with so many problems (but I know that's the way it is!).

The only positive(?) thing from my point of view is that the new unit is going to be installed in the upstairs bedroom, which is only used to watch TV at night immediately before going to sleep. So its not a total disaster if there are problems.

When I see how it behaves, then and only then, will I decide about getting another HR-20 to replace my HR10-250 downstairs in the Family Room.

When D* gets all the HR20 problems fixed in the next 30 days and when we get 150 National HD channels early next year and when D* stops using HDLite, then all will be perfect, won't it? And before you ask, yes, I DO believe in the tooth fairy!

I'd be too! NO OTA; Lots of bugs! HD-lite; No new channels, etc and turning off current channels for Sunday Foozball! And sorry to say but again, there won't be "150 HD national channels" early next year. their statement only means they have the CAPACITY for 150 HD Channels. Right now, probably there may be like 30 HD channels (or something like that); and part of those 30 or so channels are the Voom original that only Dish carries. And until their new birds go up (I think?) spring next year there won't be any new HD(lite) channels coming up.

I'm happy with my HD Tivo and that unit is not going anywhere for a while! BTW, I finally watched "Anaconda" recorded from Showtime (?) some time ago and YUCK! HD-lite at it's best. During the fast scenes so much of heavy pixelation going on! Go D* (NOT!)

You know what, dont believe everything you read. While I agree the HR20 has some issues, its actually a good unit and the bugs are being worked on. I think they were coerced into releasing it a bit early but mine has worked pretty well from the get go. While I am still relying mostly on my HD Tivos, its a good unit and has done all that I have asked it to do.

So dont drink the Kolaid and just evaluate it with a clear mind and you will have a chance to be happy. With the way patches are coming I cant imagine you will have that bad of an experience by Oct 2. Just remember its different then the HD Tivo but I compare it to driving on the other side of the road (driving in England). Its the same but different. Feels weird but once you get the hang of it, its not that bad.

Thank you
I have had none of these problems quoted above other than the OTA issue that everyone knows about, I am not happy about it, but I feel it will be taken care of shortly, possibly with a few other quirks as well ...
Many of the things mentioned above have nothing to do with the HR20-700.

This unit unfortunatly was bad mouthed before it even was available...
Mine has been good so far and the AT-9 also, had a decient rain tonight, no problems, haven't had the torrential down pours yet.
