I think this would work well for most roof installs and be more stable, too. It wouldn't require monopoles and the customer wouldn't have to worry about leaks from the mount since there isn't one. It would take more work to do and I don't see many homeowners doing it themselves, but for the handy ones, it could be a viable solution. Okay everyone, tell me why it isn't a good idea!

Stubby mounts aren't a good solution in snow country.

Way too much work!! The stubby mounts are nice, requires only 6 lags and no monopoles.

I like doing projects like this. It's a challenge to come up with a solution that's outside the box. The amount of work isn't part of my equation.

I never intended the work would be done by the installer. That would be way too much work. Wouldn't you love to see this when you showed up at a house?

Hmm, I never thought about the grounding issue. Couldn't you run the ground from the dish to an outside point?

I love the idea, just because it is so unconventional. You could in theory ground in the attic... I've got an even more unconventional concept for a dish install, but I need to do some materials testing before it's viable.
