My BUD II Re-installation, needed, HELP???

Hi there Folks,

I'm from Seatac, Washington just a mile East from Seatac Airport.

My BUD II needs to be re-install, again.
Allow me to explain, below with 9 photos. : - ))))

First of, NO DEADLINE, it's been 2 years, now but NO DEADLINE, and hopefully IF I can find
someone for next spring of 2018 to help.

We didn't know what would happen, we were in a rush to setup for a Lottery director
MUSL in Iowa who came out to see my setup. Which he doesn't know anything about
how the BUDs works. : - )))) Whoooo!!!! Glad he didn't know anything about
the BUD installation. : - ))))
It was on July 24, 2015, on a Friday early morning.

But my nephews were in a hurry to install the BUD II, by NOT taking more time
and NOT taking seriously about what SHOULD BE done in a way of doing
the installation, few days before July 24th. SADLY.

The purpose of having BUD II is to be a EMERGENCY BACK UP for
BUD 1. What IF something happens to BUD 1 right in the last minute
before the Lottery drawing, then I would have BUD II that would be
already set to go, for me to record the Lotto drawings for MUSL and
Georgia Lottery and upload the videos onto their YouTube channel.
But BUD II is NOT and still NOT ready yet, for 2 years, now!!!
I haven't even got the wiring hook up to it, yet. I hold back on it.

I need help on BUD II if anyone could, and there's NO DEADLINE on getting this
BUD project done. But to know the answers, at least for now.


The way it looks is that the AJAX H-180 gear motor is too closet, way too closest behind
the BUD!!!! And we didn't realize that the pivot point on the top of the AJAX H-180 gear
motor is too short.

We built a ring mount by coping from the KTI-H-180 mount, a spare one, so we had
a welder copied it for us. ( cost me $500!!! I do not want to use the spare one )

But what we didn't know is that when put together the BUD 2, the AJAX H-180- gear
motor and the back of the BUD 2 are too clost together. And my guys, my nephews
had to cut half of the cover of the AJAX H-180 gear motor, just to fit with the dish.
Too closest. And we didn't know that we would have to have a longer declination bolt, underneath the gear motor.

With this setup, IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK to try to move the dish with the H-to-H mount,
because both the dish and the gear motor are too closest up against each other.

So, I'm thinking that I need to expand ( if that what you call it ) by getting an extra
metal piece that attaches the short pivot point on AJAX H-180 gear motor, and
a longer declination bolt, both would have to be the same length in order to spearate
the two parts from being too closest.
And to replace a full cover for that AJAX H-180
gear motor. With this re-arrangement I would probably need about at least 3 or 4
guys to do all this. Some on the ground to hold the dish, the others would be on
the ladder to re-arrange the back of the BUD. And I would need to know how
thick and width of a pivot point piece that goes onto the shorter pivot point
on the gear motor to the copied ring mount.

I'm posting 9 photos for you to have a closer look at the BUD II
"improper installation" from my theory.

TERRBLE, TERRIBLE way that these 2 nephews did in a hurry,
just a few days before the Lottery director came to visit.

I need a new team that knows what they're doing and what
I would want to have it done.

First. Are you going to leave this dish set on a single satellite? By what you wrote, it sounds like you are. Second. Is there enough vertical adjustment to look directly at the satellite you're after? If your polarity is correct, and you're looking at the satellite that carries the lottery channel, and you're good to go. I can't really tell much about the modification to the mount. If they are incorrect, the dish will not track properly. I hate to tell you that especially since you spent $500.

It is critical that everything be in the proper alignment for everything to work. I fiddled with a dish for two days that had been through 70mph winds that twisted the dish on the ring by a quarter inch, and could not get it to track. We replaced the mount and it worked like a champ. If everything is off on the ground by a fraction of an inch, you'll miss the satellite by miles.

pick up the Lottery drawing which is on Galaxy 19, C-band.
And YES, you are correct that THIS WILL NOT WORK for the way my nephews installed.
Terrible, terrible, terrible setup. And were in a hurry too fast without thinking.

All I'm asking is if anyone knows a team that would be willing to help by re-installing
which is to separate the dish and the motor like 1 or 2 inches apart by adding ectra
metal or steal pieces for both on the top and the bottom, the declination part to the mount.
And by doing that it would be a few people on the ground holding the dish.

This is why I have NOT hook up any wiring to the feedhorn and to the gear motor.
Because I was re-thinking by looking at the whole structure of the dish and with the
motor. And I decided to have a "Conspiracy Theory" on it and know what could be done
to correct it.

This is why I decided to post to ask around if anyone who could help, maybe in 2018
in the spring or the summer. NO DEADLINE on this project.

Mixing and matching parts like this can be a problem, especially if you want to track the arc. In your case it's simpler because you only want Galaxy 19 and not tracking multiple satellites across the arc. Which means the dish simply needs to be adjusted to point at Galaxy 19 and that's it.

- ensure your LNBF is correctly oriented
- loosen bolts that "clamp" the mount to the pole
- rotate mount so dish is pointing at Galaxy 19
- adjust the elevation bolt (the really long bolt) to adjust the dish up/down
- tighten everything down once you've got a good lock on Galaxy 19

Note that since you have the other dish (presumably nearby), you can compare and approximate the direction/elevation and get this dish tuned to Galaxy 19 easily. You can also compare the LNBF positions too.

This can be done by one person with some wrenches and a ladder.

I installed dishes for 30 years, and back then, there was someone selling BUD's in just about every town. When small dishes took over the market, the BUD's slowly started to disappear, and so did the support market for them. I can't remember anyone in your area we dealt with, so I wouldn't have a clue who could come out and take a look at your system. If I was closer, I'd be more than willing to take a look at it, but with you being in Washington and me in WV, you can see the problem with that. There's a lot of knowledgeable people on this website, and I'm sure they'd be willing to help any way they can. You should be able to use your H-H mount to receive a single satellite.

I'm getting ready to install the 4th dish I'll be using the same way even though all of mine are capable of tracking the satellites. You can use a straight edge and an digital protractor to set the look angle and polarity skew for that particular satellite. I fabricated lock down bars for my dishes for just that purpose. If you get the PID info, frequency, polarity and symbol rate and program it into your second receiver, you can use it and a TV to locate the satellite.

You can go to dishpointer.com and get the information for the satellite you're looking for. Good luck locating someone in your area. Most of the Dish and DirecTV installers these days wouldn't know where to begin installing a BUD.

Thank you for your wonderful inputs.

Sgs, yea, I was thinking about that earlier today about what you said is to
move the dish by hands to point at Galaxy 19 C-band for the Lotto drawing to
record it and upload onto THEIR YouTube channel.
But again, I mention that I have NOT hook up any wiring, yet, because of that
structure I noticed and thought twice about it. : - ))))

Wvnan, it's too bad that you're NOT in Washington state, but YES, WV is too far
for you to fly out here. And yes, I had contacted the local dish services that are
for Dish Network and DirectTV, refused to help me with my BUD.
Even though the technician for Dish and DirectTV told me that he has 20 years
experience with the BUD, but he said he wouldn't help me with it. And you're right
that most of the technicians for Dish and DirectTV doesn't know where to start with
the BUD.

I hope to find someone to take a look at this BUD.

Oh, by the way, let me know IF you want me to upload photos of my nephews
that installed improperly back in July, 2015.

I have done about 10 of those motors if you post pics without the dam cover on I might be able to help yes I had welding done too but from what your writing i'm confused i need to see it from the back without the COVER YOUR HIDING WHAT IS IMPORTANT IF NOT DONE RIGHT YOUR NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO USE IT AS A H-H MOTOR never track it the deg off set is what where you live here it's 5.8 degrees i use 6 and fine tune it here a pic of the last one I ever did

Right you hiding all your welding work yes i know that system very well that motor came from a electric car window opener it's very small for what it does those gears are a work of art
