For a dual LNB dish...

Is it necessary to connect both cables to the multiswitch or can you connect only one to split into two rather than two into three.

For example, can I connect a multiswitch with the lone cable running to my DVR at the moment and split it to both ports on the DVR or must I connect it at the dish with both wires?

You must connect both lnbf connections to the multiswitch. Then you will run two cables from the multiswitch to your DVR.

Need to have to lines coming from the dish to the DVR, but you don't necessarily have to have both tuners activated. TiVo works fine with only one tuner working.
