Multiswitch, Connecting 2 Feeds to R10

Hi All. I'm new to the site. I've searched through the forums and read all the multiswitch posts hoping to find someone in the same boat as me, but no luck so far.

I have a DirecTV dish with three feeds going to three different receivers. I recently picked up a R10 DirectV receiver with Tivo. I'm trying to hook up a fourth feed, so that I can Tivo two shows at once on the R10. I read in another post that I needed a multiswitch. I picked up a 6x8 multiswitch. I have the three feeds from the dish going to the first three inputs of the multiswitch. I have two outputs going to two other receivers in the house, and two outputs going to the R10.

Each time I go through Tivo's guided setup I cannot get a full signal on the second satellite feed. I've tried changing around the inputs, but the dish always fails to pick up a signal on all transponders.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

So no matter which line you use the first tuner works but the second tuner has zeros in some of the transponders? When going through the setup, do you select 3 LNB and specify 2 tuners? Is your multiswitch powered? Which brand?

Did you try using a different output on the multiswitch for the second line? I can ask more and provide maybe some other ideas if you post back.

Wow. Quick reply. This site is great! Yes, I select 3 LNB and specify two tuners. The multiswitch is a 6x8 Zinwell. It is unpowered. Different transponders come in depending on which combination I connect the three inputs, but never all transponders. I have also tried using a different output for the second tuner. I have not tried all of the outputs yet. Maybe that's the next step at this point? Thanks again.

Anytime you have transponders dropping, its usually a bad coax line or a bad split. The split being at your multi-switch. Make sure no other splitters or diplexers are used along the line. I had the same issue ages ago. It turned out to be a bad coax and drove me crazy for months. I would not rule out the line but the issue may be a bad multi-switch. Definitely try different outputs on it.

Thanks. I'll try the other outputs and some new coax. It all else fails, I'll try a new multiswitch. Does it matter which of the 6 inputs I use to connect the three feeds coming from the dish? I find it odd that depending on the inputs used, the tuner picks up different transponders.

The thing is splitting signals. Its supposed to keep all transponders together but if matching split isnt working exactly right, your lines are sharing the same mix. So if a receiver is using the line on the same split share, it takes a transponder. You can use normal splitters to split a signal but thats what you end up getting. I think there is a malfunction somewhere. By moving the output to a different split you might avoid the shared problem. Now if a clean line isnt working either, then I think the multi-switch is defective.

The 6x8 or 4x8 multiswitch NEED 4 inputs from the dish to the switch. 13 & 18 VDC for sat 101 and 13 & 18 VDC 22kHz for sats 110 and 119.

Without the 4th input from the dish to the multi-switch, you'll always have a problem.

Yes, the multiswitch will not work correctly unless all four outputs from the dish are connected to the multiswitch.
As iwc5893 posts, there are four different combinations of selection voltage and 22Khz tone the receivers (and therfore the multiswitch) can generate and each has to have a dedicated path to the dish.

Yup, bad info. Who told you that? They need to be tied up with some RG-6.

No kidding. Trying to problem solve all the odd issues when the obvious was done. String that person up. All have to connect to multi-switch. Go to the light!

If you need four connections, you need four lines from the dish. If you need five (or more) connections, you need four lines to a multiswitch and then make your connections to the receivers from there. You did get really bad info, yes.....

Yea,You didn't even need a multi switch.Your dish has 4 outputs already built right in.This was almost the same as me .Except now I'm going to have 2 DVR's and 1 non Dvr.So I would need a multi switch.
