MPEG2 Receivers being swapped to MPEG4 in these DMA's

right now we have two 4k channels one that does regular 4k and the other is 4k HDR no programming on them at the moment Dish could start adding some of those 4k channels i have listed above.

Don't hold your breath for 4k.

Just like Directv, Dish is managing their programming and satellites to minimize expenditures (capital, operating, and programming) with both providers experiencing a steadily decreasing customer base.
The 4k market is so small, there is no money in it for them.
They each will say, fine if you want 4k, look somewhere else because it is too expensive with too few customers for us to mess with it.

Just like Directv, Dish will slog along eliminating their SD receivers and markets and when they reach the break over point, they will likely pick up transponders from Directv at 110 and 119 and then drop 129W service, eliminating the need for a half billion dollar satellite expense.

Directv is well along on the program with their 119 and 110 transponders probably becoming surplus property in the next year or two.

AT&T does not need money

Read the financial reporting on AT&T. Last year AT&T had the dubious honor of having the #1 position for debt to assets. They are on a crash program to raise cash by shedding assets and cutting expenses as the debt rolls over into higher interest securities.

Like when a a football team gets a new coach, they changed direction and decided on a new strategy a couple years after acquiring Directv (which they no longer consider a critical asset) and have moved on to a new plan where wireless, streaming, Warner, and original content is where they intend to concentrate their investments after servicing debt.

They have already announced there will be no more satellites constructed so it's obvious they are milking the cow for what they can get out of it before it goes dry.

And, as far as Dish/AT&T relations - I'd guess they are quite cordial with AT&T probably having done a quiet deal with Dish to not fight their purchase of Directv and are looking at any deal that cuts their costs or creates an income source.

Time will tell.

They are paying my company almost $30,000 in the next 2 months to switch out the equipment at all of our hotel bulk properties?

Why invest any more money if the plan is to get rid of satellite delivered service?

Because they are going to make their ku satellites which are presently carrying sd surplus.

That is more than 1 billion dollars of capital expenditures they avoid.

A couple hundred million to change out lnbs and or electronics is peanuts compared to not having to finance construction of the 2 ku satellites approaching end of life.

I have an old 311 I have used to take out to the dish to peak it. Not activated. But it has been a perfect receiver to tune the dish. I believe it is an MPEG2, so it looks like I will have to toss it and find another receiver at Goodwill for that purpose. A while back I even saw a Vip211 there.

No, there's not much 4K yet on cable and none on the broadcast networks, but you can find lots of 4K programming on Netflix and Amazon Prime and many beautiful scenic travel logs in 4K on YouTube. You won't see any 4K on broadcast TV until they turn on ATSC 3.0.

There's one station in Honolulu that was in MPEG2. KPXO with the Ion affiliation used to be broadcasted in HD MPEG4 on DISH, but on December 19, 2018, the feed itself was moved to the 119 ConUS Transponder 21 and converted to SD MPEG2 showing the national feed. Also the PBS National feed on the Yuma-El Centro DMA was still in MPEG2.

Hmm.... nothing happened. They're continuing operations for 129. Most MPEG2/SD duplicates are not removed yet. Should we wait 'till Wednesday afternoon?
