MPEG-4 seems to be a big issue on the DirecTV forum. I know that Dish Network is currently using MPEG-2 and say that they will eventually switch to MPEG-4.

My questions are....

Several people have said that *C has a much better picture than EV does. Does *C already use MPEG-4? or at least something better than MPEG-2?

Will EV eventually switch to MPEG-4?

Thanks to all who know more than I do!!

*C uses MPEG2, they just do not compress the video as much as BEV or Dish..

MPEG4 allows high quality in smaller spaces, so that channels can take up less room, and have higher quality.

Some say *C is wasting bandwidth because of it, but I personally find it refreshing that a DBS provider actually cares enough about their customers to give them excelent image quality, even at the expense of the sheer number of channels.

Clearout on DSR500

Can we please compare the DSR530 with the EV 9200?
