Title of this thread indicates that I'm asking for advice, but it isn't just that. I'm going to vent.
I'm getting tired of seeing DirecTV's competitor, Dish Network, be the one that brings in high-definition feeds of national cable channels that I believe should also be carried by DirecTV. (On a priority issue, I don't believe 3-D is the rage. If I ran DirecTV, I'd know damned well it's HD that should be top priority in what the company should pursue in content.)
One week shy of the fourth season-premiere of the Emmy-winning Mad Men, both DirecTV and Dish Network have yet to bring in AMC HD. (Very dumb!)
But at the rate Dish Network is going, they're really outpacing DirecTV in a more up-to-date channel lineup of HD.
Speaking with a relative — who resides in another state and in whom I referred as a new customer (in 2005; I've been loyal since 1998) — I told her, pretty much along these lines: "DirecTV has to always keep up with competition. Business reasons. Expect them to be bringing in a more comparable HD lineup. The companies, after all, go in spurts where one company is ahead of the other. DirecTV is behind now. But DirecTV will catch up, because they'll have to do so." For the record: She wants Turner Classic Movies in HD; I want — to be frank, here — a comprehensive lineup (as much as what's actually available from national cable programmers. Hey, DirecTV never shies from tauting they're … leaders!).
Right now, my stance is to stay with DirecTV. (I'm subscribed to MLB Extra Innings but will let it lapse after the conclusion of the 2010 season.) But I do wonder: One year from now, will this situation continue with DirecTV? (If it does, it may serve me better to "move on".)
