Here's a weird one

Sit down last night to watch some hockey and it starts snowing/raining/sleeting all that good stuff.

About an hour in, my picture goes out...nothing

so I go to move to another satellite and the damn motor won't run...so I go out and check and the green light is on and it will move if I manually do it. I did do the power switch off/on but that didnt help

I said screw it because it started snowing really hard.

setup is receiver to motor to old 4x2 multiswitch (the ones that DirecTV Phase II had) to Invacom quad LNB

So I guess lets say the switch is bad wouldn't the motor move? or do you need power from the receiver to the motor to the LNB?

If I do a paperclip reset and arent on my TS will that screw up my motor settings? (I use 1.2 so if it does no biggie)

Pretty sure a reset will not effect your positions, have done it a few times. The positions are stored in the receiver. As you say no big deal if not!

May be something frozen inside as my motor is not too happy today with the extra weight the low temperature's and high winds.
Other than that I will guess a bad or damp connection!

Take care up there!

Berg, I doubt that anything past the motor has an effect on the motor. But that's just another one of my "assumptions".

I do remember reading that if you reset your motor, it will assume that the present postion is the center. So, before anybody resets his motor with a paper clip or a tooth pick, he should first do a "go to center" command, if possible......otherwise, he should press the manual button until the motor looks to be in the center....and then do the reset.

I'm thinking either a flaky switch or connection by the LNB

I tried both a DBS slot and a KU and the same thing...wont move

The cable from the motor to switch did have some snow on it so it is possible

Just braved the "ROOF" to try the above out for ya!

It did indeed seem to effect the positions, but under USALS I hit "Go to Reference"

And all the positions are correct :) knew there was a way round this :)

I aint going on my roof until the snow stops and I use the snow rake to get it off there :)

Dont blame ya!

Pete,
That pic looks my roof most of the winter. Will you folks please keep the snow out there, we are almost thawed out here (roof is clear) and really dont need any more snow. Puts a damper on playing with my roof mounted dishs.

Iceberg

When you get a chance, you should be able to try the motor movement without the switch or the LNBF being connected to the motor.

so I could move the motor from the receiver without the LNB/switch/anything connected?

I thought you had to have all 3 items hooked up (receiver, motor, LNB) to move motor

dont know what happend but I came home and powered on the receiver and all of a sudden I had a picture...so its working right now but once the snow is off the roof (hopefully soon :D ) I can fix the connections/switches/etc

Iceberg, know your feeling. My motor for whatever reason does not want to power (SG2100) up and 0 green light. Cable is fine, tried hooking it up to expressvu to get a signal and everything is fine.

Interesting! During our last weather event  around here, I had the exact same thing happen. Solution; I powered the ViewSat STB off and then back on a bit later and bingo everythign back in order:confused: . Now thats the standard solution with ViewSats that can be a bit flaky. But your not using a VS, or a STAB120 like I am.

nope. Coolsat 5000 and SG2100

I think it was a connection between the motor and the switch that the LNB's are hooked into

yep. Everything works fine.

We had snow/rain/ice pellets/sleet Sunday night when this happened and there was snow on the connection

Glad everything worked out, Ice.... what is that word you keep using..... s...n...o...w?
Confused!

yes snow

white stuff that hits the ground and stays making it a b**ch to drive to work, screw up satellite reception and make projects get put on hold until you can get rid of it :)

Being from New Orleans, I rarely get to see the white stuff. Well, we did have snow on Christmas Day in 2004... but, that was a ten-year snow :)

I spent a couple of Januarys in the Blue Ridge mountains in Virginia. When it started snowing, I was wide-eyed and just like a kid. The next day it was getting old. The following day I was calling the beautiful snow "that fluffy $@!*"... Then came the "wintery mix" that Iceberg described. Following that we were snowed in on the mountain for two weeks :D
