Most exciting NFL games you can recall

With the NFL season upcoming,

I was wondering what were some of the most exciting NFL games you can ever recall.

(This is different from anticipated game; sometimes, great games are not those you anticipate)

Here's mine:

I grew up in Buffalo when the Bills were in their no-huddle prime.

The most exciting games that I remember were these two:

September 1989, a 47-41 O.T. shootout with the Houston Oilers at the Astrodome.

January 1991- a 44-34 playoff game with the Miami Dolphins at a snowswept Rich Stadium

I think I could help you out. I remember an Eagles/Giants game from 2002. If the Giants won, they would go to the playoffs. Tiki Barber fumbled 3 times, I think and a winning FG sent the Giants to the playoffs.
I guess you could say as a Giants fan, I was anticipating that game but it became a true nail-biter. Just back and forth towards the end as the Giants had opportunities and Tiki would fumble them away. Just a great game.

What about the "Greatest comeback in postseason history"? Oilers led the Bills 35-3, and the Bills came back and won the game behind Frank Reich.

Anyway, I'l take a guess at three of your favorite Patriot games (sorry for the bad pun):

1. Against the Rams- not the SB upset, but a game in 1986 that ended on a tipped Hail-Mary that was caught by Irving Fryar

2. 1986 against the Dolphins- in the last game ever at the Orange Bowl, Steve Grogan (whom you consider the toughest Boston athlete ever) scoring a late TD in a Monday-night thriller that was not only the last game ever at the Orange Bowl, but the second consecutive win in that stadium after a long drought.

3. 1994 against the Vikings- Drew Bledsoe outduels Warren Moon. The score was only 26-20, but Bledsoe went 45-70 (both single-game records) and threw for 426, including a OT TD (Moon had 349).

Wow, you are good, my friend! :up I was thinking about that Pats-Rams game, but thought it was so obscure it wasn't worth mentioning. Again, kudos for remembering that!

And yup, that Pats win against the Dolphins was their first regular season win in the OB since 1966 (Of course the Pats won the AFCCG there in Jan. 86 to end the OB jinx once and for all). It also won the AFC East for the Pats.

That's mine too, nothing else is close. I can still see an exhausted Kellen Winslow being helped from the field!

I've heard that Winslow was dogging that injury and he wasn't as exhausted as he was. I think the explanation was that he was on the bench and there's no way he could be that tired. I don't know if it's right. I might have to look it up but I do remember that Winslow caused quite a stir from that game.

December 21, 1974 - In the first round of the AFC playoffs Oakland's Clarence Davis catches the game winning TD pass against Miami with 24 seconds left in "a sea of hands" (belonging to the Dolphins).

Those games stand out in my memory as a young teenage Oakland fan (I've since corrected my ways).

How could I forget that one! Bert Jones (an LSU alum - remember him?) was the Colts QB. I actually pulled for the Colts in that one.

Those games seemed so much more exciting back then. Guess I was just young and naive, but they sure were fun to watch.

You're so right! I started watching football in 1976, and through the rest of the '70's I remember so many exciting games. Those games usually revolved around six teams : Dolphins, Steelers, Raiders, Cowboys, Vikings, and Rams, with the Patriots, Colts, Oilers, Broncos, Chargers, and Redskins sprinkled in.

I can think of some:

The 1995 Thanksgiving Day game against the Vikings or the 1986 Thanksgiving Day game against the Packers or the 1990 Thanksgiving Day game against the Broncos

Last year's game against the Bears where Detroit set a record for most fourth-quarter points

As far as the regular season goes, the most recent game that comes to mind for me would have to be the Bengals @ Browns week 2 game last year. The 51-45 shootout which also signified the coming of the new Cleveland Browns Offense, was so much fun to watch. I was at a local Pub/Grille watching on a 25 foot diagonal screen with an HD projected image. Everyone at the place was there to see the game. The place erupted early and often after every exciting play. It was quite an experience.

Speaking of which, have any of you seen the new DirecTV commercial with Jimmy Kimmel? The one where he is advertising for the NFL Sunday Ticket? He uses that Browns/Bengals game as a reason why to purchase the Sunday Ticket.
