More Help Finding 61.5 or 129

My current configuration is one Dish 500 pointing at 110 and 119, and a second Dish 500 (currently out of alignment) pointing at 61.5.

I posted several months ago, wanting to change my 61.5 sat to 129 to pick up local HD channels. This proved problematic, as I think the tree line is too high to pick up 129 and I never got any signal. I put the satellite back to 61.5 without problems.

A few days ago, I decided to give 129 another shot, but again failed. This time, however, I cannot find the signal for 61.5. I basically turned the television volume up really high and went to the point dish screen to locate the signal for 61.5 transponder 22, which what was recommended the last time I posted. I cannot seem to find this signal again for anything.

One thing I did do when trying to find 129 was run a switch test when I didn't have a signal on 129 and then hit okay when it said I had fewer channels accepting the switch test results. Does this cause any problems when trying to point the dish back to 61.5? Or should I try to use another transponder? BTW my current zip code is 32066. Otherwise, I am sure my elevation and all that is okay, so I am perplexed why I cannot pick the signal back up unless transponder 22 isn't coming in anymore. I don't remember checking to see if I could get it before moving the dish to begin with.

EDIT: here is the link to my original thread - http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-ne...ocals-w-o-contract-tallahassee-fl-market.html

Also, I am considering just calling Dish Network to get the Dish 1000.2 or 1000.4 to pick up 110, 119, and 129 and just let the tech they send out deal with where to set up and all that. I am currently out of contract, and would like to stay that way. Does anybody know if I will have to sign a new contract to get this upgrade, as it is or was supposedly a 'free' upgrade at one time. Otherwise, any pricing guesstimates on either paying Dish or paying a tech not going trough Dish to get this upgrade?

I am going to work on this somewhere when the suns out and hopefully at least get 61.5 back. I was also kinda hoping for BBC HD to be uplinked today, in order to catch Torchwood, but we will see about that one. I can't currently see if its been uplinked.

Any Advice?

Thanks.

Just as an update, I called Dish this morning and got a pretty good CSR, seemingly, who signed me up for the 5.99 monthly warranty and they are sending out a technician free this time who will fix my issue. The rep said I should already be getting Local HD channels and to let the technician know I guess in order to make sure he sets me up for the 129 instead of 61.5 which I should have been getting all along anyway I guess.

He is scheduled for Wed, July 22nd between 12-5 PM so I will update on my experience with the technician when he comes out. Hopefully he won't be an idiot, and can hook me up without having to put in a 1000.2 or 1000.4.

Well, its the day the technician is to come out, I am still awaiting his arrival.

Dish Network gave me an appointment between 12PM and 5 PM and its a bit after 3PM, still within the window. I know technicians stay busy and never really know how much time they may spend any given day on one job, so I do not complain about having to wait. However, a courtesy call would be appreciated, to at least hear from the contractor doing the job that he has me scheduled today and confirm the appointment. I always end up wondering at times when it gets later into the day whether or not somebody is actually coming. I am sure that some of you guys who do contracted work for Dish probably are courteous and do call ahead if possible. Too bad more technicians don't.

I will update as soon as the tech leaves my status and aptitude of the technician and all that good stuff, I am sure that maybe one person would be interested. :p:p

Follow Up (If anybody is actually interested for that matter). I'll start from the beginning. 4:30 PM - received a call from the people who dispatched the technician. They asked me if the technician arrived or contacted me. He had not arrived nor contacted me. The girl on the phone says that they cannot reach him either. I ask her to have him contact me when she finally reaches him. 5:45 PM - technician finally calls. He tells me he was stuck on an upgrade for 4 hours, that I am the 2nd next on his list, and that he might possibly be here between 7 and 8 PM. 8:30 PM - technician calls for directions, I give him clear directions. He calls back 10 minutes later lost, and I have to instruct him again how to get here. He arrives moments later. He pulls up in a old van and he is not alone. He has a rather fat ugly nasty looking woman with him wearing short shorts and a tank top with no bra. The man was dressed in shorts and t-shirt. I know these guys have been working all day but I think they may want to observe some better hygiene regardless. The guy 'resighted' my satellite dish onto 61.5, but said that I would need a 1000.4 pointing at the eastern arc(I think he said eastern). He said I would need to call in and ask for dish movers and a 1000.4 upgrade kit, and also said I should get rid of my 301 and get a 211 and get rid of the switch I am using. While resighting my dish, he was the one pointing the dish while his fling or whoever was at the switch calling out the meter readings to him. He was very friendly though, although I question his aptitude, and he was fast at fixing me up. However I must protest his extreme tardiness with lack of communication. I understand getting caught at a job, but not contacting people to let them know he will be late is inexcusable, not to mention his 'professional' appearance and the woman with him and her apparel. Having a extra hand is fine, but at least they need to present themselves better. In short, I will probably call the number on the work order and complain about the tardiness and appearance. I am sure the guy has probably received complaints before. I'm surprised the guy has a job doing Dish installs. I'm just a bit flustered at having to wait around all day and wasting my whole day. It works though, so I'll just leave it at that.

Why the heck did he point it back to 61.5 ? You still don't have HD locals do you? And why would he say you need a 1000.4? Tally is a Western Arc DMA.

And yes, call the number on the service agreement and tell them what crappy subcontractors they have working for them.

Yeah, I got the survey call earlier and had a nice long chat with the rep about it. I told the tech we were Tallahassee locals on the western arc but he said who ever told me that was lying and insisted that I got Jacksonville locals, but seemed to thick headed to understand that we were Tally. In the meantime, I have decided not to have Dish send another rep out, I am going to order another Dish 500 or a 1000.2 online with a signal meter and install it in a better location. This way I can get a better signal all around hopefully without having to deal with a sorry contractor, and worse case scenario, call and hire a reputable dish installer if I have any problems.

Well to avoid a wing dish just pointing at say 61.5 or 129, go the 1000.2 and 1 dish, its Pretty :D and any tech worth his salt can just point at the 119, with the correct skew and elevation and hit all 3 you need 110, 119, 129 in the Western Arc.

If your tech is running that late again, I'd call dish and reschedule for a AM appointment. Tech arriving that late just want to get out of there and go home.

Actually I think its just that the tech was a sorry pos. I have also spoken directly with the company that dispatched the subcontractor. They told me that next time I should just ask for an 'in house' employed tech instead. I have ordered a 1000.2 and a few things online, and they should be arriving in the next few days, so I am going to erect it in a better location with a clearer line of sight.

WHAT???? You mean the guy from the trailer park with his Fat Assed Walmart girlfriend didn't do the install correctly? You must be kidding. ;)
