More HD to move from 61.5 to 72.7?

Well, it was inevitable that they would need to get everyone on an arc... Many of you that have read my comments in other threads know that I disagree with the maintanence required for both arcs. On this occasion 61.5 threw them a curve ball and they had to make a choice on the new HD... Put it up or wait. I'm glad they put it up. I'm on western arc, so no biggie for me... But, I felt sorry for those that couldn't get the new channels and totally disagree that anyone had to pay anything to get them.

Well, guess I need to make a decision and get this done, since I need to "move" back home to have the work done before baseball season gets here. ;)

Currently have 110/119 on Dish 500, with a separate pointing to 61.5...is my best bet to add 129 and call it a day? (Gotta keep 61.5 for SNY) If I go eastern arc, I would have to also upgrade my old 311, wouldn't I? I'm afraid to do anything with receivers, so i dont screw up my "upgrade" allowance before the 922 comes out, should that actually happen sometime in my lifetime.

Dsw44. I would buy a 1002 dish for 110,119,129 and run your 61.5 dish into the lnb input on the 1000.2. That way, you stay at two dishes. 1000.2 is easy to aim. Sorry about 1002 typo, iPhone won't let me go up and edit. I meant 1000.2 on all occassions.

I don't think you have much of a choice but to add 129 (or 72.7) if you don't upgrade the 311. If it were me, I'd get a ViP 211 to replace the 311 and get an upgrade to pure eastern arc with a 1000.4 and be done with it. You can always buy a 211k at DishStore for $119 if need be. You could always ask if the exchange of the 311 would screw up your DIU. It may be if they want subs on pure arcs they'll do the swap for a minimal fee. You could just wait until we subs get some more concrete info about what E* is doing and what they're going to do for mixed arc subs dollarwise. You also could heep the 110/119 for the 311 and put up a separate 1000.4 for the Vip receivers.

Grr, I have NO line of sight for 129. Tech was out a couple months ago because my HD locals were available and confirmed.

I have my HD on 61.5 on a separate dish from my 110/119. Am I out of luck?

You could have another D500 pointed at 72.7. I don't know your location so it's hard to know whether an eastern arc solution would work for national HD. I'm assuming if you can see 61.5 you can also see 72.7. Is there no place to mount a dish to the east of the 110/119 in order to see 129? Not even a pole mount? There are some installers that will not go to any length at all to find a suitable position and there are some that will go to the end of the earth to do so.

In that case, I would replace the legacy receiver and put up a 1000.4 for eastern arc.

I'm sure they would do it and not take away your upgrade status. And the previous post is right, you can buy a 211 for just a few bucks more than the upgrade from dishstore and then you don't have to worry about anything.

If you currently are receiving your programming on 119/110/61.5 and you call to get new HD programming, what they doing? Are they just adding 72.7 with with Dp44 switch or what?
Its hard to imagine they are putting another Dish on your roof.

That's what they did for me yesterday. Plus they had to add an external power source to the 722 receiver so it had enough power. I now have 3 dishes on the roof, but I get all the HD now.

I'm too far east for the 1000.4 dish.

What do I need to do to future proof!! Presently have a small mixture of Eastern and Western Arc, 119,110,61.5,129. Also have 118.7 disconnected. (Dish 1000+ & 500) Do I need to add 72.7? What about 77? Is 61.5 going to be replaced someday?

You have mostly western arc with a 61.5 thrown in for measure. You are all set for the hd as it will go to mostly 129 and possibly 119 when the new sat is up and running on western arc. You won't need 77 or 72.7 unless you intend on using eastern arc.

You'll be fine since you have at least one pure arc.

This is not going to happen, the 118.7 is where the internationals will remain. Everyone can access this satellite, Not everone can get the 129 or 61.5. Don't change your setups untill there is fact based information proving it. Right now the 61.5 location has some old broken satellites, Untill something gets put there to replace them, I doubt anything like Internationals will be put there.

You do know that 61.5 still has internationals on it right now right? If DISH is smart they will duplicate the same channels like the internationals and the Latino packs on eastern arc too , so they can prevent having to add a dish 500+ just for the 118 sat. Would also prevent line of sight issues if a sub couldn't get western arc satellites. Back up so to speak. Using mpeg 4 and the new sats come next year , I am betting that they will do just that.

So, I'm in the Detroit DMA. I have a dish 500+ and a wing pointing to 61.5. The guy is coming out on Tuesday to fix my issues. What is he supposed to be doing? Repointing my 61.5 to 129? or 72.7? or what? Will I no longer see the 118? I don't subscribe to any internationals.

I am glad they upgraded me to the EA on Wednesday. It was a hassle with the retailers as the first tech guy refused to do the job. Dish Network called me after I complained and the tech guy that came on Wednesday did a excellent job. He hooked my 612 to the eastern arc. He even replaced my coax wire. He left the three 510's hooked up to both dishes even though the second dish is not needed. He ran another new coax wire to one of the receivers and even replaced the DP34 switch even though there was nothing wrong with the old one. I recommend him to anyone. Too bad I don't remember his name.

As for the EA I am glad I am on it now and I knew that eventually Dish Network was going to be moving even existing HD channels to 72.7.

The following was sent to Dish Network retailers...

The way this is worded it appears that those with 61.5 dishes might lose some HD programming in the future.

Back when they announced the new HD was going on 72.7 W instead of 61.5 W, I had posted what I thought Dish was going to do with EA programming and I was told that I was wrong. In fact, I mentioned this back months ago in threads on Dish getting use of all TPs at 72.7 W and many folks posted that Dish wouldn't do this because too many folks had 110/119/61.5 W configurations. Although in the short term this is going to cost Dish for doing changes to Dish configurations but it is logical over the long term and it also will drive more subscribers to an all MPEG-4receiver configuration. Right now Dish's priorities are the 8PSK/MPEG-4 conversion, expansion of locals via spotbeam capabilty and adding more HD probably in that order.

I find it very pathetic that dish is making their customers pay for an upgrade on channels they are already paying for. Charlie should do the upgrades free!! Dish should be contacting their customers not forcing the customers to contact them!!

I agree, I already had paid for 61.5 in the past to get HD; that fact should at least provide a free upgrade to me and perhaps to the " small group of customers" that are affected

Judging from the polls at this site and other sites it seems as though that "small" amount is 40%.

That does not seem to small to me.
