More E* HD bad news??

Look what they are craming on the 110 satellite now!!! I wonder why Sattellite guys missed this uplink report...http://ekb.dbstalk.com/dishlist.htm

Email received earlier today from (Anon): Echostar has just created spotbeams [on transponders] 29,27,12 on 110 for high def exclusive to Alaska. Before this, a 6ft dish was needed for 110 HD transponders (17/13/7) in Alaska (2.4 meter or impossible for west Alaska). 61.5 and 129 is not viewable in Alaska. Here is the list of channels that are only viewable for Alaska customers with MPEG 4 receivers :
5500 110 2159 DSCHD
5501 110 2157 TNTHD
5505 110 2159 ESPHD
5506 110 2157 ES2HD
5507 110 2142 NFLHD
5510 110 2142 HDNET
5511 110 2142 HDNMV
5512 110 2142 UNIHD
5515 110 2157 HBOHD
5516 110 2159 SHOHD

It's not the type of HD "cramming" we are used to since it's on a spotbeam and doesn't affect the national channels everybody else is getting.

They aren't going to be crammed.

all channels mpeg 4

and 2 tps w 3 channels and 1 tp with 4 channels, that's they same/less then the compression they're currently using for HD locals.

I'm sure in Alaska you'll take any kind of HD you can get.

Somebody should change the misleading title of this thread. It's good news, not bad, for subscribers in Alaska and a nonevent for the rest.

before you that wait and see where they shove the "voom" channels

Congratulations to all Alaskan HD Dish-watchers !
Sounds like a good deal to me.
And I'd certainly suggest the topic be changed.

But, the most important question has not been answered: How big a dish will they need now?

I can just see it all now: "Dish 500 for HD, 2mtr dish for SD"! :)
(actually, I've read that 1.2mtr is sufficient for SD, but don't take my word)

These channels arent in the system yet. So they are a few steps from even having video uplinked.

There is no BAD news with this. They are using spotbeams that are just sitting there idle. Its not like they could have fired them up for national HD or something. Its basically a way to get HD to alaska with a smaller dish. How small, we cant tell yet since there is no channel defined nor is there any video. However we'd have to rely on folks in alaska giving us reports as these are spotbeams anyway.

Juan, why are you saying this is bad news? What else would you like them to put on those transponders?

Hi all, Being one of the HD-Dish-watchers in Alaska this is really good news to us. Not only for the increase in the number of HD channels but now we will be able to obtain and use the 622. Alot of us have been waiting for a long time for this. Now if they would only uplink the locals.

Question

622 Signals Screw Up
