Welcome to the Site !

As for the D* equipment, is it currently active ?
Personally, I would set it up using an HDMI connection between the TV and the HDMI Output on the back of the recvr, but there are other ways as well, like running thru your A?V recvr.

What Directv recvr are you using (model).

It looks like the TV the OP has is an old CRT that doesn't even have composite connectors. Hooking up a recent model DirecTV receiver will not be easy and will require a modulator.

Yes, welcome to the site. Sorry to say that it's probably time for a new TV.

Yes D* equipment is active. The model is C41-500. I appreciate any specific info.

You will need a special plug in adapter that will provide composite video and audio from the DirecTV Genie mini. Then you feed that into a channel 3/4 modulator and wire that to your TV's coax input.

Or you can buy a new TV with HDMI.

Recent model DTV may or may not have connections you need. I think you need the lowest end standard definition receiver, with or without DVR function. If you have an HD receiver, it may not have the connectors you need and will have to exchange it.

The lack of a remote is going to cause some serious issues. The DTV receivers don't have channel 3 outputs anymore, and the only way to switch to the av inputs on the TV is via the remote. You would need either a universal remote or see if the DTV universal will support your TV. There should be a section of the DTV receiver manual that contains remote codes for various TVs. I did a little research and it looks like remote code 10171 will do the trick. You can find the info online here: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIF.jsp?assetId=P4380056#h:605.599 The manual will show you how to program the remote code.

Once you have the remote programmed, you can use the input select function to select video1 or video2 (not sure which)

You will need an SVideo and a pair of audio connectors. The Svideo one has a silver shell around a set of pins that are arranged in a V. Check to see if this connector is on your receiver. If so, connect from the DTV receiver to the TV plug. The audio connectors are the red and white RCA connectors. They have a shall and a single large center pin. Plug red into red and white into white.

If all this works, you should be set to go.

New tv not an option. This actual tv was in another room and has been hooked up successfully to directtv the last 4+ months. I moved it because I did buy a new tv last week. I don't mind buying the adapter but there has to be a way to make this happen. Does my main downstairs box have different options than the extra one in my bedroom?

The main box downstairs must be a Genie, ,thats the box that everything happens in, the other box is basically a slave.

How did you have it hooked up in the other room that worked ?

Thanks for all replies. We figured it out and now my "antique" tv has directtv access.
