Article a little vague, but I suspect if you wanted to sell your iPad, you could get more than MS offers, wouldn't have to buy a Surface and could put the money toward a new iPad. Or even an Android tablet - anything with a brighter future.

I don't think Windows is going away, but we are at the dawn of the Post PC era.
Windows' dominance is on the decline as intervals between purchases extend and as tablets replace PCs in many consumer's homes.
For the forseeable future in business they will also see a decline as the refresh interval is longer and more and more work is done with http type interfaces.
The smartest thing MS could do would be to get the Office cash cow running on Android and iOS as quickly as possible.
They've missed their Window of opportunity (no pun intended) in the mobile and tablet space.

I'd be slightly interested if they offered the discounts towards the Surface Pro as opposed to the RT..
