when receiver is turned on it flashes MICROHD on a blue screen about every ten seconds. that is all it will do

You have ran into the infamous boot-loop issue with the microHD. Below it a link with a PDF that tells you have to fix with a TTL cable and where to buy a cable if you don't have one.
