Long time listener, first time caller here. Hey all!

I bought a new house with plenty of property and great view of the belt; no obstructions through the arc. It came with a non-functional :)no) 8.5' BUD (previous owner ran into it and bent the 3-6 position mesh a little). It got my juices flowing, and now here I am. :D

I wanted to get into FTA, and I've been crafting the best design for my needs, and I want to run it by the more experienced for recommendations and some outstanding questions. Please refer to the diagram in the attachment.

Questions

  • If I want to have both receivers control the motor, which would be the best way to accomplish this? Splitter? Multiswitch?
  • If I get a new BUD or fix the existing one, where should I put him in the mix so that I might have both my 922 4DTV and the Pansat get at the LNBs? I realize to move the actuator, I'd have to use the 922 to do it.
  • The run from each switch to the receivers is about 200ft of cable. Any issues you see there?
  • Since I have the quad that will let me do DBS, I can do that with the Pansat no? Or, do I have to run that into a legacy receiver?
Anything else I should do here? Comments extremely welcome!

  • Not real easy to have 2 units move the motor unless you slave the PC card through the receiver. Since the motor runs through the cable, you’d only have one cable running through the motor.

Should be fine with that cable..make sure its good RG6

You can get the free stuff on DBS like the audio (sans Sirius) and NASA & Angel One. See the “what can I get with a 18” dish” thread in the FAQ section.

Thanks for the reply. I thought I might have to slave the cable. The cable is the stuff you pick up from Sadoun and I'm using compression ends.

I did read the FAQ on the "18" but it was never real clear to me whether a standard FTA receiver would do it, of if I needed a specific "service" receiver that was unreged. So, that means the Pansat will work... good. So, I wonder, is it better to slave, and only need to use one switch then? Me thinks it would... then I only have to run one receiver cable from the switch to the pansat, then daisy chain the pci card to it.

Brings up another question: what can I do to split a slave connection from the pansat if I want to run it as above and slave a 922 4DTV to it? Or, should I just avoid that complication?

Thanks berg!
