I am setting up a dish & receiver and am getting nowhere. Adding insult to injury, I am close to being taunted by my wife. Currently, we are in the "why don't you hire a professional stage".... I am still acting as though I am in control, but am losing altitude and fast...

Consequently, I am questioning some of my basic assumptions. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Basically, I get signal strength up to 84% but no quality.

1. My LNBF make is:

DMS International Model ACS321S
RF: 1.17 ~ 12.2 Ghz
IF: 950 ~1450 Mhz

Should set the receiver settings to Standard or Universal? (currently is set to standard)

2. 22Khz setting is off. Is this correct?

3. Skew is at 45. Is this correct?

4. I am in Potomac, MD. That is Lattitude 37 and Longitude 77 degrees. Based on this data, Noaa's site indicates that declination is 10.37 degrees West. As such, I figure my true south is at 190.3 degrees. And my TS satellite is AMC5 @ 79 degrees.

Did I get this right?

5. Based on my coordinates the motor manual suggested that th elevation setting on the motor should be 53 degrees and the dish bracket set to 24.

Did I get this right?

ASC321S is a standard LNB so you have that right.
22KHz, off - yep.

Check your motor bracket if you have an SG2100, there are 2 scales - not many people notice that, one for Lat one for elevation - make sure they're not mixed up :)

Edit: you should leave the skew on the LNB set to 0 - the motor will skew the whole dish for you.

It says here your lat. is 39 deg.

Motor elev. = 51 deg.
Dish ele. = 24 deg.

No skew is needed for a motorized mount/true south. So the LNBF should be straight up and down.

I am having similar problems with my new fta motor setup.

Traxis 2500 DMS Digital KU LNBF
Samsonic 75cm dish
DMS S 2100 positioner
Lat: N41.2613 Lon: W89.2277 Zip Code: 61326
Mast is true level and plumb

I have yet to get enough quality out of any birds even though i have adjusted dish elevation and used the receiver's Diseq to move the dish around.

Nothing seems to help. Going on my 4 day and about ready to give up. Never had this much trouble peaking a dish before. Please help

Dont give up! I would remove the motor and find a few satellites then put the motor back on.
What kind of LNBF do you have? Any markings on it? You will not get any signal quality unless the L.O. is set for the type of LNBF you have.

I guess I have to get back up on the ladder and try again. Can you confirm that I correctly identified my TS satellite AMC5?
 
Signal means nothing all you are looking for is signal quality, make sure you have a live channel entered then watch for signal quality, very small movements of the dish from left to right, then move the elevation up a degree or two and do another sweep, also try a few degrees below your elevation.

Usually there is nothing wrong with your system just a pointing issue, or sometimes a tree or something blocking the line of sight.

I know exactly how you feel. You sound like me about a week and a half ago. My SG2100, Winegard 31", and Universal LNB got me nothing over 60% signal, and 0% quality. I felt sure my equipment was faulty. I'm now building a Home Theatre PC based around my Twinhan 102g (will post pics somewhere when I'm done) after finding 90% of the American Ku sats on lyngsat, and having over 150 channels saved :) Nahuel 1 continues to elude me, lol.

Don't give up! It's sooo worth it.
Also, on my Universal lnb; I usually only get 65% signal, MAX, and then only if I'm already pointed perfectly. Don't trust sig. strength numbers too much ;)
 
Pete Et.al,

I am now watching St. louis and Kansas City Baseball on Galaxy 10r :) I have been trying different things. I think my biggest problem was that i was looking for quality on transponder 1 even though it might be empty. as soon as i changed to a used transponder everything fell into place.

1. Which receiver do you have and do you know that it works?
2. Use a signal meter if you are not using one already
3. Bring the TV as close to the dish as you can and try to point the dish as you watch the TV.
4. Point to a nice strong bird like 110 or 101
