Greetings from SatelliteGuys Rumor Central...

I just caught wind that DirecTV is working on welcoming back customers who have been without DirecTV for 3 year or more. From what I am hearing (and of course this is just a rumor) Anyone who has been disconnected from DirecTV for more then 3 years we will allowed to come back as a new customer and will be eligible for all new customer promotions.

More as I have it. :)

Hmm. So the program welcomes back people who weren't satisfied the first time around and locks them into a 2-year agreement? Brilliant!

To me this is a great thing.

A few years (about 4 or 5 years ago) ago I subscribed to DirecTV just for the NFL package for my father as he was out of work sick. We had the most basic RCA receiver, we did not susbscribe to any DirecTV programming other then the NFL package.

A little over a year ago I wanted to go back to DirecTV, I wanted to get all new equipment to replace my Dish HD equipment and I was basically told to go pound sand or pay full price for all the equipment since I was a DirecTV subscriber.

This is one big reason why I am still a Dish Network customer still.

I should note that not everyone leaves DirecTV because they were dissatisfied, some folks may have lost their job so they cut out DirecTV to save money, others have moved and didnt have a view of the satellites and I am sure there are many other reasons why people left besides being dissatisfied (although I am sure there were many who left because of that reason as well)

May this influence you to go back to DirecTV Scott?

Matt

I may subscribe to DirecTV just so i can be in on the loop, I am out of it when people talk about DirecTV since I don't have DirecTV, which is why you see me in the Dish area more then here in the DirecTV area.

Dtv

I just signed with DTV. I was a former customer from a year ago. They gave me an H20($99 rebate). HD Pack free for 3 months, HBO for 6 months for $2 a month & Showtime free for 6 months. Free install of 5 Lnb dish. Yes, I did have to commit for 24 months. Seems fair

This should help DirecTv a bit. Dish Network already does this (if you have a credit card of course). I wonder if DirecTv will require the credit card if you want to come back.

I know of one person that was allowed to get the service again even though they owed a balance previously and they got four receivers installed.

I sub'd to D* back in 1999, cancelled when I moved into an appartment with no view of the satellite. I was 20 with zero money at the time.

Anyway, in 2003 I bought a home and wanted dish (no cable here) and D* won't take me back without paying for all equip, dish, and install costs. They wanted $300+ for a simple two receiver setup.

E* took me with open arms, and I haven't looked back since. In that three years I have given them $70-110 / month in programming and spent over $1500 in hardware upgardes (D1000 and two 622s) and a pocketdish.

Well, in June it'll only be a year for me since I "cut-off" D*. From what I'm reading here.........D* hasn't done anything...........I'm moving to a location that only has around 20,000 citizens.......I'll just do the OTA.....& wait till this HD-DVD vs Blu-ray turns out along with the new version of HDMI (1.3v ?) maybe by then (I still have to wait 2 more years to be a new customer with D* )......Version will have fiber to the home.....forget what I hear about AT&T IPTV progress.........

Barney

Funny. When I switched back from E* two years ago, I call and they connected me to the "reconnection specialists" and gave me the same deal that new customers were getting at that time. I was unsubscribed for about 15 months.

Honestly Scott,

You wont watch any of the D* channels. I want to get rid of my HR10-250 with 2-250 drives, networking, decryption and extraction and get into a Vip 622 and two dishes. But I have 6 months left. HBOHD is the only channel worth recording movies from. SHOHD and HDNmovies have OAR but the picture is too bad) BSG on UHD and some things on HDnet. (even that pixelates :( ).

Typical negativity on this subject - at least its consistent.

You should at least be commended on your intent, let alone if you actually do it. You can't go by other people's comments one way or the other. Typically, only the small numbers of naysayers speak up here (its so much easier to whine than take the time to compliment).

If D*TV was as bad as they say, why are they still the #1 Sat service, why do they grow at rates all other services would kill for, and why is their churn rate BELOW most other services - because MOST people like them. While this clearly pains certain people and rubs them the wrong way (based on the exponential barrage of negative daily posts on anything that contains the word D*TV in it), facts are facts.

I know of dozens and dozens of folks very happy with D*TV and their HD service. When you have 15 million customers for ANY product or service, some will always be unhappy (and even rightfully so in some cases). That said, what always gets missed is the 98% of the folks who ARE happy.

Kudos to you for basing your opinions on thes observations from your own eyes and ears, no matter what the outcome.

Honestly, Vurbano is speaking the truth. D*'s HD is not up to Par. I have compared it with my Cable HD on my Sharp 37" LCD and Sanyo Z2 and there is a definite difference. Most people that are happy with D* have more than likely never seen True HD or they subscribe for other reasons such as the sports package like me. In my opinion, Vurbano has always just stated the facts, even when we were in the original Voom days.

I've never been a subscriber to D* or E* (Time Warner Cable subscriber)... but I have seen both. D*'s picture is substandard in every way, especially when blown up on to a 110" screen (Sanyo Z2, just like Dish Roamer). E*'s HD is lightyears ahead, but I have not seen much of their SD to be able to say which one is better. Of course, E* has started doing some of the same things as D* lately, which is part of the reason why I have not switched yet (that and $300 for a HD-DVR).

I'd love to see your proof of that.

If you honestly believe v-- "always just states the facts", you must be new to this and similar message boards. His great insights and frequent promotion of Voom totally ignored their glaring horrendous business model and bizarre efforts of maintaining any form of customer service (which many of us saw right away) - which ultimately led to their total collapse and demise. V-- disputed, opposed anyone who even questions Voom's plans at every turn, and repeatedly insulted anyone who saw the handrighting. So much for "the facts". He only has opinions like the rest of us (based on the Voom track record...hmmmmm).

Apparently you don't buy into the "find out for yourself" concept that most people use on any lasting investment or decision. That's OK, you disagree.

However likewise your personal comparison means nothing, just like mine doesn't either -- different location, different equipment, not side-to-side, and your eyes and not ours. I can find plenty of folks who totally feel the opposite of your position. Whopee.

I could also make a strong case that E* is in such a world of hurt for the future themselves because of losing 2 major court cases (including the TIVO DVR case) the past 30 days against them, and they also lack the resources (money and equipment) for the future bandwidth needed for widespread HDTV - I also have used their service, have friends who used them and left in disgust, and read all over on how bad they are - so everyone should bale out of DISH right now, using your same logic.

There have been countless lame threads about "HD Lite" (which many feel is an illegitimate term), which is inconsistent with the industry HD definitions as described by the CEA and FCC. There has been plenty of back and forth bantering on that one too. The bottom line, you either buy into the facade of that term or you don't. Doesn't make it fact - the government standards are being met (you haven't seen any fines or lawsuits with the FCC on "HD Lite", have you?).

Let's call a spade a spade - it's your opinion. You are absolutely entitled to an opinion like anyone else - but not to re-label it as something else. Having one or a few others concur doesn't make it a "fact" either.

Satmeister you said "Apparently you don't buy into the "find out for yourself" concept that most people use on any lasting investment or decision. That's OK, you disagree."

To bad that you have to sign a 2 year agreement to find out on your own. If you don't like it, you just can't leave it. This is why we give our opinions to help people decide, that is what these forums are for.

Take a chill pill and go enjoy your "investment".
