What is the farthest that you can run a coax from the dish and accually work?

Directv says 150ft but people have gotten 200+ft and haven't had problems.

Some dealers have reported upto 600' but it is a combination of many factors. Size of dish used/diameter(size of coax used) of center conducter/copper coated steel or solid copper/ voltage switched or band stacked system ETC. Consult a "PROFESSIONAL" installer not a 6MO. fly by night for your needs.
