Max external HD size ?

I know that Dish says the max external HD is 2tb, but was wondering if anyone has had any success in a 3 or 4tb HD ? I have been searching prices and you can get double the capacity of a 2tb for around $30.
Any recommendations ?

I got a 3 TB drive. Works fine. Dvr will only ever see 2tb. The remaining space is just unused. FYI

3TB shows up on a computer. But the Hopper 2 or 3 only see's 2 TB's and when it is formatted and configured by the hopper/s 2TB of use full space is all you will have. If you are able to use 3 TB of space on the Hopper please confirm. If so Cool!!

Well I just learned after trying to install that a 3tb is not compatible for a 211k box. Screen comes up and says max is 2tb
