The return of All American Direct in HD, at least for the Eastern states. This time, they will offer multiple cities in HD from the Eastern and Central time zones. This is all part of Dish's plan to completely stop offering local channels. Those who can get them for free OTA will have to watch them that way. Everyone else will qualify for distant networks provided by a third-party.

I highly doubt that they would eliminate locals since PTAT works by placing the main local network channels on 1 transponder. I really enjoy PTAT and I also like auto hop though it has lost a lot of its usefulness.

I do think that the OTA tuner has given Dish more leverage when negotiating for locals. Of coarse I also get 42 locals from Columbus and Dayton Ohio. Also the storms seem to be getting more intense and I lose 129 whenever it is storming hard.

Well my friend, looks like we are all going to have to upgrade, I haven't read here, but I heard somewhere they (Dish) will stop activating all the Vip receivers (211k, 211z, 222k, 612k, 722, etc.) meaning they will only activate Hopper, most likely the 4K version, really don't know about that, but economics pray that us (consumers) will have to dump all in the future, of course you have devices that will down grade definition so older sets could work....

Most people have DVR service (I guess) but if now everyone has only hopper people on a budget will have to pay all the extras both operators try to add and your bill will always be high (probably they will activate a hopper without the DVR service, but then what is the point of having 1TB or more with no use in your receiver) I thought consumers had the right to select what ever they could afford (probably HD and DVR shouldn't be billed separately, I understand HD and DVR services take satellite space and data processing, therefore it must be billed separately, but bill come up and up), for those who don't want to spend in HD, and now most of us that have HD will have to migrate to 4K, in some years they might start with 8K.......technology evolves; if H.265 wouldn't been developed 4K wouldn't be possible, I guess they are working as we're talk in even more efficient CODEC......

I do have the Hopper 3, but I didn't know in order to get those channels, the customer had to have only a 4K Televisions, plus the Hopper 3. I did not want to buy another HD TV with 4K in order to have more channels. If I had to do it again with upgrading with the Hopper 3, I would do it again. I am very pleased with the Hopper 3!!!!

As of October 1st, as you know, there will be no more VIP New Connects., As far as upgrades and replacements, I don't know about that.
The replacement for the VIP is going to be, we were told, a 2 Tuner Hopper called Hopper Lite but haven't heard many details yet.

Hard Drive too large, no need for 3-16 tuners,etc. This new receiver will give us the ability to offer a more consistent experience through out our receiver lines to our customers including the whole home experience, HD on both TVs and the Internet features.

As we move past the ViP line, it will also give our customers a better overall experience as the confusion and resulting repair work orders associated with 2 room ViP receivers will go away.

I wish we had more info on it, since we're barely over a month away from this starting. I saw one post that said it uses DPP technology, which seems to stray from uniformity of the Hopper Family, or is it more like a Wally with A Joey?? Just kind've confused at this point about the whole thing. If they follow the trend of migrating from SD to HD, I assume VIP will still be available for upgrades and replacements, but anything is possible

It's the same. I've seen a few mentions of 4X Fast Forward but they have up to 300 FPS Fast Forward so what speed is that?
