Hi all,
I'm new at this game and realizing there's a lot to learn  This is my first post here. I'm located in Canada between Newport VT and Ayer's Cliff QC. I've been a subscriber of BEV for about 10 years.
While I'm trying to decide which package to buy, a friend just lent me his Coolsat Pro 4000 receiver to hook up to my existing bev dish/lnb. First impression: WOW! This is as good (bad?) as the Internet... a guy could loose himself and waste a lifetime getting caught up in this web...
So, after configuring the receiver for my dish, I see I can get a good signal on 110W and 119W. A first auto scan gives me a big bunch of channels but, a 100 questions/problems arise  Here are the 2 main ones:
1) My computer is a Mac. Is there a site where I can find FTA related files and Apps ? For example, is there a Mac App that reads .ndf files?
2) I'm having trouble getting a decent on-screen channel list: 90% of listings say "No information" and when I enter a list of favorites (say Sports) after a short time of zapping around, the list seems to change by loosing some of the pre-selected channels.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Why are you trying to get 110 and 119 with a coolsat?

Hack talk is illegal here!

I can only plead ignorance and would appreciate being educated on this. Are you telling me that 110W and 119W are exclusive to bev and that there aren't any FTA channels transmitted from them? Or do I need a special lnb for FTA channels?

I'm interested in the world of FTA. I was offered to borrow an FTA receiver to try it out so I hooked it up to my dish which is set up for my (paid) subscription to bev.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Most of the channels you see that have "No information" on them are encrypted those channels were more than likely some of Dishnetworks programming I don't think 110 and 119 have any FTA channels on them.

Check out the FTA forum here.

He He He LOL "plead ignorance" nice! Just FYI ignorance is not a legal defence; really, no lawyer will defend you based on that claim.

That's a lawyer's perspective
For me, ignorance is bliss
So how about stupidity? Will that work in my favor? I’ll admit to that as well because I hadn’t realized that these so-called FTA receivers can also just as easily (and without a paid account) receive subscription channels… and from stupid I went to disgusted when I happened upon some porn channels!! :yikes Give me a break, all I’m interested in, are free religious channels ?!…

Err… getting back to my 1st question in this thread:
“My computer is a Mac. Is there a site where I can find FTA related files and Applications? For example, is there a Mac App that reads .ndf files? “
Thanks

For FTA you do not need any files & apps. These are for MODIFYING the FTA receiver. The FTA receiver, dish and LNBF are all you need. Just follow the instructions on connecting the unit and pointing the dish to the satellite you want your "free religion" from. Move on over to our FTA section to learn about REAL FTA reception. Stop asking for files and apps to modify the unit. That is the hacking part.

P.S. Stupidity is also no legal defence.

So what's your excuse Carper? Are you a cop maybe? :down You got the wrong impression if you think I'm looking to hack. I pay $69/month for my BEV subscription and am perfectly satisfied with it. I was only looking for a list of free channels and my first Google searches gave me .ndf files which I can't read.
I've since found what I was looking for in HTML format -thanks for that 'The Tate' :hatsoff:
Also I'm not trying to modify the unit nor connect it to my Mac (not even compatible I don't think). Being a newbie at this, I just borrowed it for a few days to try and learn and educate myself about FTA as a hobby.
BTW as a supporting founder (and bourbon tester) do you have admin privileges? If so could you transfer this thread over to your FTA section as you suggest or should I cross-post over there myself? :wave

Whats my excuse for what?

It's Charper1.

No, I am not a cop, nor do I care what you pay per month for your sub.

I didn't say you WERE hacking, just that you don't need files & apps to obtain FTA; and that if you would just read and learn in the FTA area you would see that and we could all move on toward helping you.

Where in your original posts did you say you were only trying to find FTA channels lists? That would have been answered in about 30 secs by 100 people.

What does being a supporting founder and / or bourboun tester have to do with anything?

Glad you finally found what you needed. I assume you got it via PM or email as opposed to in the open thread.

how in the holy hell did this get under my radar? I assume it was somewhere else

As noted above, ignorance doesnt get you very far here. we are a STRICT no hack talk site. Sure "your friend" lent you his unit to pick up a few free channels. If so, why would you aim a dish at 110/119 to pick up stuff? hmmmm

also, FTA boxes come with everything you need. No need to download a channel list or other software

sounds real fishy to me. And no charper isnt admin...but I am :)
