lowest angle for birds

I a currently compiling the equipment for KU-band FTA viewing, I have a 4 ft andrews dish with a Norsat 4707A if you would like a copy of the URL I can PM it to you. My question is can I use one of those Stab motors with this dish, also am I using the correct LNB for what I would like to do. I would like to be able to view digital and analog and also view the horizontal and verticle transponders.

My main question of this thread is that I live in new england I have a fairly wooded lot, I am almost positive I will not be able to pick everything up in the belt, but does anyone know the lowest angle I would pick a sat up at?

other than that if I can get some answers to these questions I will be all set to purchase a receiver!

Sounds like the 4 foot dish should work GREAT for KU satellite depending on the noise value
(db) of the LNBF you may want to replace that eventually.
 
Looks like 4.5 is the lowest angle, I would have to pretty much have no trees for quite a distance, but looks like there is still quite a bit I should be able to pick up! I guess the next question is finding a motor for this hog and making sure this LNB will do what I want it to do! Thanks for the quick reply
 
You will be very unlikely to pick up any useable satellite signals under around 10 degree's in elevation any way, even with a clear line of sight.

Not quite accurate :)

I can pick up T12 and Atlantic Bird 1 which are at 10° and 7° respectively for me with great signal strength. I've even had a partial lock on Atlantic Bird 2 which is at an elevation of 4.3° , but the neighbors trees just come into the signal.
 
I was suprised that I was able to track 58w - 148 with my shot at LOS. 61.5 is 23.9° elevation. I'm not sure what 58w is but it has to be in the mid teens. The dish is about 30' off the back of my house:
 
Pete, Does the upside down dish give you a lower viewing angle, allowing you to see those lower birds?

Thats what the military and people in Alaska use, but of course you still need a clear line of sight......
Had another look tonight, I have a clear shot at satellites below 10 deg. but still no signals found!
 
What size dish are you trying this with, I have a friend with a spare DirectTV dish, the same one that I am currently using on EchoStar 9 for my wifes German TV. I may be able to pick it up from him.

I have used a DirecPC and DirecTV dish with this method, both work. Of course the bigger the better for KU signals!
