Low quality

Hello everyone.
I just setup a hh120 with a 33" dish and invacom quad lnb and im get low quality on linear sats, On circular sats the quality is maxed out and am just wondering if maybe going to a larger dish would make my linear sats come in with more Quality.
I'm using a cnx trio and i have open sky where my dish is at.
I am in windsor ontario canada and was wondering what others around this location are getting for quality on linear sats with around the same dish size.
GlobeCast 97west comes in really low and im just wondering what my options are to get this to come in as strong as possible with my motor setup.

Have you taken a tv outdoors and set it up by your dish to do any final
adjustments? Makes fine tuning a lot easier, you can adjust your east/west and elevation slightly while watching for improvment, sometimes the slightest east/west tweak will make a big difference in your picture quality.

I agree with Turbosat... It is easy to get high quality readings from the circular birds, and not even be precisely aimed. On the other hand, the linear birds require precise adjustment. Most likely, the dish needs to be tweaked. Use the circular birds to generally find the arc, and the linear ones to fine tune the dish

What would you guys recommend as a good linear Sat to fine tune the dish too ?

I would recommend your true south as the best one since getting that one peaked should clear up all the rest, barring anything partially blocking LOS to the others.

Being in Windsor AMC 9 or even AMC 2 would be decent.

Btw, I also have Trio and the motor control is very nice on it. Do you have the latest firmware (version 5.01) on it? There is/was an issue with the signal meters in one of the versions.

What are you calling "low quality"?

For some satellites, anything over 30-40 is high quality for me on linear satellites, on some of the weaker tps.

Do tweak as much as you can with a tv outside... but just know you'll probably NEVER get every signal in the sky to show up at 99%.

One trick, when messing with a motor is to tweak to get best signal somewhere on the far east side of the arc, then do the same on the far west side of arc, and then test the middle around your true south too to make sure you haven't gotten too far off of it. You should always start with true south, but just because that's lined up doesn't mean your east and west will be... especially if in all your tweaking you've managed to push the pole off of level both ways.

Always take a level out with you to test the pole when tweaking. It can be very frustrating to spend hours working on making one satellite come in just to find out that you messed up your pole's plumbness and now have to start all over.

Also, be sure to check multiple satellite signals often when tweaking. If you find something in the 30s on one satellite, that doesn't mean it's neighbor won't get you something in the 60s, or that you won't find something stronger on the same bird on another tp.

mastermesh, In the past I have tried the east/west method but the invacom on my 90cm fortec made the east/west method take the middle out of alignment. I have to believe it was due to the weight and it just ever so slightly was off a bit on the extremes.

Hi guys sorry it took so long to report back to this thread but been busy and kinda just living with the problem. thank you for all the information and i think i know what part of the problem might be also. I was using a generic 33" dish that i kinda had to rig up to get it to fit on the end of the HH120 arm. I have now purchased a fortec 80 dish and a Ubolt mount kit for it to fit in the arm as it was intended. I have also used the support braces that came with the fortec dish and its rock solid right now. Much better then the previous setup. I have high hopes for better results on linear sats right now with the proper equipment.

SatinKzo , I'm going to take your advice on tweaking the quality on those 2 birds and thank you for the information. Also on the cnx issue you mentioned , yes it sucks for setting up a motor. I had to use my pansat 2700 for the aiming and tweaking because the cnx would lock up on me during the procedure. Other then that problem it works like a dream, the cnx motor menu is really well done.

I will post my results as soon as the mounting bracket arrives to let you guys know where im at with this.

Well today i finally got he Ubolt braket i needed to mount the fortec 80 onto the HH-120. Everything is working great and now can view G10R with out any problems what so ever. I also changed all my fittings with compression fittings just to make sure it wasn't going to be an issue. Thanks for all your help and just like it was suggested, tweaking for quality on a linear sat real helps everything else fall into place.
I am really surprised in the difference in quality i am getting now by using this dish (and proper instructions)
