Direct reduces its costs and the only drawback is slightly slower performance, of which few would even notice the fractions of a second difference between the HR20 and the others.
More important than the time is the relative time. If the HR23 is 40% or more slower, that's a big deal.

Set your display to "Pillar Box" on your receiver and it will always maintain the proper aspect ratio.

Dodger,

Thanks! Check me out on this thoughtline: (HR22)

- I changed my Native setting to "off"
- I de-selected all resolutions on "display type" except for 1080i
- I changed the "format" type to "pillar box"

It looks like things are working good. As you guys said. the channel-changing delay is shorter.

Here's a question:

Before changing my setup parameters, I had Native "on", and all resolutions selected (480i thru 1080p)

After changing the settings as listed at top of post, I noticed that the Fox MLB feed today (Sox vs Yanks) is 1080i on my Panny Plasma. Does the HR22 upconvert anything that's below 1080i to that resolution leaving the HR22 when only 1080i setup is selected? Usually, my local Fox feed (as well as all of the ST Fox game feeds) are 720p.
