Loss of closed captions

On my 622 early this year I could get HD closed captions (when broadcast) OTA, sat, and HD LIL. Last month I was missing CC on ABC HD local-into-local (LIL) all the time and NBC most of the time and the same for OTA. HBO and all non-LIL worked. For the last several weeks CC has disappeared for CBS HD OTA. Yesterday I lost all CC on HD including HBO... .

The recordings include CC because I can look at the SD output on TV2 and the TV can display the captions--so the problem is the 622. The Samsung DLP will display CC on the same 46-mile OTA with small amp antenna signal for both.

Either I have a 622 that is progressively dying or it is a general problem for the VIP, which?

I hate the thought of a replacement (had one for loss of HDMI output) as I have more than 100 hours of recordings untransscribed to DVD or to be looked at only.

Is it just me?

Oh yeah, 4.03 (did not get 4.01, thank goodness, I guess) did fix the stuttering flow of the closed captions that 3.66 (?) had with repaint on each word and on scrolling unless some stations output the whole line at once. Of course, now I don't have that with no captions at all.

I have had this problem too. Especially weird would be seeing closed captions bleedthrough on TV1 while the screen saver logo was moving around the screen. It would go away when turning on TV1, but then they're be no more captioning at all. A reboot fixes it for a while before it starts happening again.

Apparently the overnight (5:05 AM MDT) reboot brought back NBC and the Dish channels. HD OTA ABC and CBS claim (ala guide copy from the Dish SD locals) that there is CC but the TV alone shows no sign of them, so a "local" problem--but this is daytime TV. The SD LIL does have them.

Hard to live without the captions as Dolby seems to "blur" speech and brings up the background music even when using headphone or sound system.

My CC sometimes will just stop working until I turn them off and then back on again on my 622. They will then work for another hour or two before stopping again. Very strange.

Try turning up the center channel, it's what I do.

Early this year I was encouraged that CC began to appear on the LiLHD feeds for all channels; Fox, ABC, NBC & CBS. ABC and NBC captioning was not as good as the other two but I figured that eventually they'd (Dish) would work out the bugs.

Then ABC and NBC captioning was lost, but the other two were still working.

Now all captioning on the LiLHD feeds are gone.

Noticed that that TNTHD and the National Geograph channel captioning only appears on TV2 (where captioning is decoded through the television) and not on TV1 (where captioning is decoded by the receiver).

Also noted the captioning disappearing (on all channels) at a regular rate on TV1. Tried turning captioning OFF then ON again as well as changing the captioning service to something other than '1' then back again. Sometimes this works but usually, I have to reboot the receiver with the power button to restore captioning.

I really don't believe that Dish understands how crucial this is for the hard of hearing. My wife and I cannot even watch TV1 together any longer because I have to wear headphones to view the LiLHD programming.

Don't know how important this is, but my LiLHD spotbeam is in the San Diego area.

Which Voom Channels do you watch the most of?

Can I suspend service except for networks this summer?
