Not so much. Plenty of articles discussing financial benefits to the cable companies to scale TV offerings way back, or stop completely and make more profits off of internet and IP phone service. The problem is that would reduce revenue.

rural subscribers will continue to lose out because they cannot reliably access the internet and enough bandwidth to stream content at a reasonable price

The only thing that can fix that is with regulation or through local communities creating coops. Here in Missouri, one of our congressmen was able to secure Federal funding for rural buildouts in my county. Now, whether the broadband providers actually take the money and use it for the right reasons, remains to be seen.

Att tv now or whatever dtv over ip will require broadband...HBO is a bargaining chip

My way of expressing this is "I am a sucker for Star Wars (and Star Trek), so take my money already!"

I don’t see it that way at all. I just don’t nitpick every detail of a movie and allow myself to like something. I also don’t let popular opinion tell me whether or not I should like a movie. Hence, I think for myself. A good example of that is that I actually liked the movies Daredevil and Green Lantern. And somebody told me that The Lion King remake was good but I thought it was lame.

Comcast has found a way to recover some of the revenue. They offer a streaming service similar to Sling, but with better packaging options. Catch is it is only available to Xfinity broadband subs. I think Dish should look at it and consider it as an option for their satellite side.

I was half joking. They essentially haven't been bad enough to make me stop watching them, although I wonder what they were thinking with some things. I generally enjoy them, at least on the first viewing.

The same thing could be said for HBO yet ATT’s demands for Dish renewing the contract ended up with them not being on Dish. Now we should watch and see what happens as the cable company’s HBO contracts come up for renewal. I think we’ll see the same thing happen with them.

The goal of the content producer/providers is to remain profitable and as cable/sat dies off the way they see forward is to start their own service. As CBS and others have either done or are in the process of doing.

First of all cable has more subscribers so it would be too big of a hit compared to the few million it lost with Dish.

Besides AT&T HATES Dish just as much as I do

Your cheap thrill in poaching that sports bar didn't last very long.

What did you do to cause DISH to kick you to the curb?

Until their interests align anyway, and then they are the best of buds. Things like fighting to keep customers from paying the same taxes as cable customers, and pushing legislation that would end retransmission disputes makes them fast friends.

I guess you haven’t noticed the articles here and there about cable companies and tv going forward. The gist seems to be that it probably won’t be all that long before they get out of the linear tv business and concentrate on internet. More profitable.

The problem with the situation is that he is emotional about it- it should be (or should have been) a legal matter. If he is owed the money, then he should have legal recourse. Letting the situation ruin your life and make you eternally grumpy is only harmful to your health :)

That being said, I'm sure Dish has teams of attorneys willing to fight any legal battle. But $1 million is a lot of money; a good litigation attorney should have been able to get Dish to pay, if indeed that money was owed to him.
