Looking for a hard drive for a Tivo Series 3

Hey Iceberg, I have been looking at the TIVO boxes. If I get one for the man cave, what would you recommend? I have an external hard drive hooked up my vip211k and use dish. The locals just give times but no programs so I don't know what's on ME channel and few others. I seen you use TIVO! Never used these before. I'll have to google what a TIVO Series 3 is? Thanks!

The series 3 are old models. The Roamio is a series 5 and the new Bolts are series 6.

You are a little late now for the sales Tivo had going on. If you want one just for over the air reception. I would hurry up and jump on one of the Roamio OTA from Amazon for $299 which includes lifetime, before they are all gone.

Otherwise you will have to go with one of the Roamio's or the new Bolt with monthly or annual service as with Tivo's new pricing, it now makes no sense to get lifetime on the new boxes.

Roamio OTA $49 with $14.99 a month service and 1 yr commitment
Roamio Basic $199 and $14.99 a month with 1 yr commitment
Bolt $299 which includes 1 yr of service, then either monthly, annual, or all in plan(which replaces product lifetime service and is ridiculously overpriced at $599)

The main difference between Series 3 and Roamio (series 5) is the Roamio has 4 tuners, Series 3 has 2. Both can stream some stuff and you can put a bigger hard drive in either of them. They use sata drives (if you went externally it has to be a esata drive)

The main reason I still use my Series 3 is noted above. Where I live ABC is on a low powered analog translator and the Roamio is digital only. The series 3 will work with analog or digital cable/OTA.

If you want Tivo to mainly record subchannels I would go with a series 3 (because they are pretty cheap with lifetime)
