A heavy snow storm crashed my dish. Does anyone know of any US suppliers of 12' or larger surfaces? I have one on order from TEK2000, but not sure they will ever get stock. Their date to have surfaces in stock has slipped 2 months now.

Thanks,

Dale

The prices are breathtaking. I can see why folks look for abandoned dishes. Buying a new large one would pay for a decade or so of pizza dish service!

A little advice. Cancel the TEK2000! Total Chinese junk. A kid blowing out the candles on his birthday cake could take down a TEK2000. ;)

While that's a bit exaggerated Magic , I do have to agree with you. I wouldn't recommend purchasing their 12' mesh. I've had my 8' from them for about two years and from the start I commented on how the mount should be stronger. It has held up so far and if I had no other option and only needed an 8' I'd probably still buy one for the cost vs quality. Another member here, iBoston, has their 12' and the mount failed in strong winds. See here http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/posts/3789578/ and here http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/posts/3854472/
If you can find an older 12' in your area you will be much better off even if it needs a little TLC. There is also http://www.dhsatellite.com/sectional-antenaes/pricing/3m-to-5m-01/ which manufactures commercial grade aluminum dishes. They are costly but if you can afford it you will be getting a quality dish. Good luck! :)

I glad I read this post. I have been in contact with TEK2000 and they have a 13.5 foot dish with a double-mount bracket that they will have back in stock in July or August. I was ready to pull the tigger on this, but maybe not. Do the photos on this mount look stronger than the one you talked about that failed?
thanks

According to their specs the 14' dish in the box is 90 lbs. The mount in the box is 85 lbs. I'm thinking that's way too light for that size of dish. It can't be that strong.

It's not the number of rings that is the problem. It's the thickness of the metal and the quality of the welds. If the metal is too thin then adding a second ring won't help, in fact it may stress the mount even more with the additional weight. The solution is to use thick enough metal throughout the mount in the first place with good welds. By comparison an old dish I recently rehabilitated used steel for the mount & ring that is twice as thick (1/4" vs 1/8") as my Tek2000. Both are 8' mesh dishes but there is no question which mount & ring are stronger. :)

Have you seen this dealer? Half way down this page is a couple of 12 footers. Has anyone bought from them?

They also are showing very outdated equipment, even for DISH and Directv. Receivers that they will not even activate anymore.

Bummer, I guess there is no reliable place to get new mesh dish anymore? Have to keep hunting for a 12 footer on the back roads.

Starting at $4500 for basic 9.8' az/el model without shipping, brokerage and customs. It is an expensive option. I would personally (for that kind of cash outlay) go for a larger DH or Viking spun aluminum model with higher frequency rating, efficiency and gain over a mesh dish.

re: Satellite Guys in S Florida

I placed an order with them. They immediately charged my card then offered multiple excuses over the next two weeks as to why it was taking so long to ship my dish. Finally, I had to have Bank of America get my money back.
