Hi guys,
Yesterday we had some storms and a ball of lightening flashed and snapped in the room as I was listening to the stereo. Everything seemed fine and I noticed no problem. Later I turned on my Openbox and "No Signal."
TV and Openbox working, just "No Signal." Then I went downstairs to test my Fortec connected to an old Primestar dish found that TV no longer would come on. Fortec was fine, TV fried..,.no power. Need a new TV here.

So I decided to check out the Openbox connected to my SG2100 motor. At first there was the green light underneath that would flicker red once about every 5 seconds. After I removed coax cables, messed around a bit and reattached, the light now stays green and motor moves fine. Then I changed the LNB with the two older ones I have and still "No Signal." So then I checked the coax from LNB to motor and is was good.

Now the question is, could there be a problem with the coax or connections from the motor to the Openbox when the motor moves and seems to operate just fine? I was thinking about changing the ends but it doesn't seem the motor would operate if there was a problem with coax from Openbox to SG2100.

I tested with Fortec too and neither it or the Openbox received any signal. The SG2100 and dish hasn't moved. I entered the TP for Russia Today and bumped dish back and forth for a good long while and could never get any signal. I should have.

The other LNBs were working fine when I put them in a box 6 or so years ago.
Coax from LNB to motor checked out fine.
Motor moves from sat to sat as if working fine and now shows solid green light.
Both Openbox and Fortec finds "No Signal."

I'm at a loss here.

Well...I'll reply to myself :))

After a good nights sleep, I thought of the next step with the Openbox/SG2100 setup. When I get time, I'll move a small TV outside and connect straight to the LNB and by-pass the motor. This will require moving the motor (Which I hate to do) since my Fortec and Openbox never did agree with each other exactly once I swapped and moved the motor. They always have a few degrees in difference.

Maybe a motor can still move and seem okay yet prevent a signal.
Maybe a shorted coax connection could still work the motor and prevent a signal.

But first, I think I will purchase a new TV for downstairs, connect to the "Fixed" Primestar dish and see if the FTA box will still receive a signal.

Maybe an FTA box can still operate and seem fine and prevent a signal.

And maybe I've already watched too much FTA and shouldn't be in to big of a hurry to get it up again. :)

I think you are on the right track to figure this out, take a tv and receiver out to the dish to break your system down to the least components possible and add pieces from there.

My last lightning hit, a couple months ago took out a motor and LNBF on a Ku system, and a router and LAN card in the house.

Welcome to the forum and good luck. :)

Not something you want to happen.

possible. Everything intact except for the RF section.
Breaking it down to it's simplest, and one at a time making it more complex, until the failure is detected, has always been the quickest and easiest method for me.
Be sure to closely inspect all coax connections for evidence of arcing. If found, might be a good 'preventative measure' to replace the coax. Never know what kind of damage is hidden beneath the sheathing. Could also have small undetectable defects in it allowing water penetration, and headaches, later.
