Lifetime: Sports, Porn, Not Us?

I find it really amusing that people support E* on this

and they forget about the costly MPEG4 upgrade
about the lease that eveyone is going to sign for 18months
the price increases
the dish upgrade
and the HDlite
and of course all charlie's lies.

I was going to respond to this post, but I'm not going to waste my time.

Cable guy,

Your avatar tells us you think cable is the solution, and you claim to post this without bias?

Give me a break! It's like colleges where 95% of the faculty vote Democrat claiming they don't have bias.

The article may be "balanced" but the motive isn't, and surely the title isn't.

I mean, how about "sports, chidrens programming, christian programming, educational programming, free speach programming, OTHER women's programming, and not Us?" Lifetime is trying to paint a picture that isn't true, as Dish carries programming of all kinds, not anti-women programming. They just don't pay Lifetime for their channels anymore. It's not a hate crime, yet...

I mean, paroting the biased view of Lifetime in your title sure does indicate you have an agenda here. Your avatar does too. Your past comments telling people to switch to anything else (knowing cable is usually the easiest), don't help.

Apparently you didn't click on my signature which would explain the avatar. I am a cable tech. and we use tools like this to help our customers. It's not saying cable is a solution but educating you that cable can be the solution when it comes to controlling what your kids watch. It helps you educate yourself in the choices you make for your kids on TV. I'm just promoting a tool for parents to use.
As for Lifetime and Echostar, either way I don't really care. Echostar will do what it wants too and Lifetime will too. Also you make it sound like I made up the title. I didn't though.
I will say it now as I have in the past, you have three choices to switch to: 1 c band w/ 4dtv, 2 cable and 3 DirecTV. I was even fair in naming three different sources even if one is what I work for and the other two are competition. Bias? where? I will try to be as fair as I can. When it comes down to it, the consumer makes the final choice.

don't waist your time ,just your money. lol

I'll keep that in mind, but I think it's funny that you think I'm wasting my money. I don't. I am happy with my Dish service, and besides it's my money to waste if I so want. :p

CableDude,

You work for the freaking cable company. Stop trying to claim an altruistic motive here!

You are repeating Lifetime's skewed claims. E* carry ALL kinds of programming, including kids, womens, sports, news, and porn. Just not Lifetime. There isn't a moral view on this, but your title clearly indicates that Lifetime and you are trying to project an anti-woman message.

And please, WHAT IS YOUR REASON FOR POSTING IN AN ECHOSTAR FORUM? You don't have satellite, sell satellite or advocate satellite, and frankly, there are enough advertisements all over my satellite channels telling me how much better cable is that I don't need an industry hack trying to convince me that I should switch for moral reasons.

If Echostar were kicking puppies, that would be one thing. But they are trying to fight extortion by a feminist lobby who has no motive other than the all mighty buck, and I think, even if we don't agree with everything Dish does re: HD or whatever, for the good of all of us, we SHOULD stand up for this.

After all, Cable rates will keep going up, too, if certain channels are allowed to charge whatever they want and then force you to pay unless you want to be branded sexist, racist, etc.

It's sickening what Lifetime is doing, and it pisses me off when people are opportunistic about it. That's why I don't respect your post, guy, and you can't throw education or child protection or what have you out and claim a higher ground. Dish also has child protection, including channel locks, completely hiding adult channels from the guide (something Cable DOESN'T do), and the new family package.

Move along.

Linda Moss with Multi Channel wrote the title and story, NOT ME !!!
Damn, God gave you eyeballs to use to read with. Now use them !!!

The reason for posting this is, all but two paragraphs, mention Dish/Echostar. duh? I live out in the sticks actually, I have no access to cable, and broadband. I have StarChoice, DirecTV, FTA receiver on G10R ku, and Wildblue internet. I have had in the past: c band satellite, Dish Network and Voom. So if you don't know me don't comment Pecker.

Programmers usually use the same rate schedule across the board with both cable and satellite.

I'm not going to a higher ground. Both sides offer protection for kids and another thing cable is offering Family Tiers and are the first to start offering such before Dish. Read the cable forums, pick up a paper, a mag, get a clue, something!
Apperently you never had cable or really reviewed the working of the digital box.

This is the crux of the problem for Charlie, he DOESN'T!

He had to "overpay" when they first started for carriage rates, and they are still well above their cable counterparts yet the "cable pigs" still charge more (and raise rates higher than the satellite companies for the same basic bundle of channels). he keeps trying to reduce the growth rate of the increases to try and close the gap but he hasn't been successful in eliminating the gap.

Even D* pays less that E* on several channels for a variety of reasons.

unlike satellite, cable pays franchises, power and phone companies for attachment per poles, certain amount of liability, etc. so there is other expenses cable takes on. If I'm not mistaken satellite and cable both have raised there rates roughly the same percentage this year. In my case, we only raised our rates up by $2 in three years while Dish has gone $5 in the same amount of time. Looks like the "cable pigs" are slimming up, while satellite is still trying to find ways to compete on cables level when it comes to broadband, vod, digital phone service, etc. With phone now stepping into the arena, it will end up leaving the satellites out while cable and phone really steps up there efforts against each other. It's getting to the point it's like satellite? what's that? Satellite will have there rural base in the long run.

Cable doesn't have to pay for $200 million dollar satellites either.....

If you guys only did $2 you are the exception. Cablevision has gone up an average of 9% a year in my area.... (and they charge me $50 a month for broadband.... as as Verizon gets Fios in my area I'm gone) I'd go to DSL but it is too slow....

I think its funny that Lifetime goes with the holier than though approach. I know its programming for women but lets face it as far as the non pay channels go the themes of the programs on that station border soft porn. No, Im not talking about the golden girls but the shows about ifidelity and sex which riddle their primetime lineups. I'm thinking for people with children you might have to toss the parental lock on Lifetime.
