Length of wiring

Hi guyz ..

I had 33-39% signal strength on a channel and after all the wiring the signal has dropped to 26%. Mt question is how liong can I run the wire with dropping the connection and if I do .. what can i do to avoid it?

Generally speaking up to 100' you shouldn't have any problems. Beyond that there will be some signal attenuation.

Of course you have to use good quality RG-6 coax.

When setting up my primestar dish, I used 100' of quadsheild RG6 I picked up at Wal-mart for $28.00 and have no problems with that length...

Wow you have 2 Wal-Marts? What is the population there? About 36,000 here.

I live in a "large" (for Iowa hehe) "metro" area. The area has about 130k. There are about 4 or 5 towns that make up the metro area. I live in Waterloo, pop. approx 70k, where one Wal-Mart is, and in Cedar Falls - pop approx 40k, there is another one. Both are Super Centers. Now you can go about 15 minutes to the north and also about 20 min to the east and hit a brand new super center in those towns too. I hate walmart - but thats another story

I run a good 100 feet with no issues on regular RG6. The farthest reciever in mty setup is about 125-130 feet away and the signal is the same as when I use a 30 foot cable to peak the dish

I definately have more than 100' coz its 130' + wiring in the wall . Has one ever tried these in circuit amplifiers? like one available on radioshck?

I am running 200ft of RG6 and noticed no difference between my original 75ft and 200ft. I tried a line amplifier but it made very little if any difference, in fact it made things worst if it had less than 150ft between the amplifier and LNB, I have taken it out of the system.
The only place you might have a problem is with a motor and a long cable length the amplifier won't help with this. I had to modify my motor to run on an external power source this was mainly due to the Starbox being unable to supply enough power to start the motor.

Could help with 100'+ wires.

I have well over 100 feet of coax from the receiver to the switch. (and from there another 15 to 20 feet run to each dish). Originally I tried reusing some old antenna coax (it was RG-6), but had been exposed to the elements for years. It worked fine and might have been better if I had put new connectors on each end. I ended up buying new cable - for both inside and outside runs - and got a little better quality. I also tried an inline amplifier and quite honestly couldn't tell any difference. My quality remained the same and after a few days I removed it as it seemed to be of no use and just something else in line to go wrong.
