we are trying to get legal fta satellites, we are bringing in 20 or so satellites but they all have dollar signs, we want anything that is free and legal, our signal is 80% and quality is 90%, what do we need to do?

well a little more info would help ;)

Dish size
motor involved?
LNB type?
What sats are you getting 90% quality on

dish size 36in., yes we have a motrized dish, pansat9200hd reciever, invacom quad polar LMB. G-25/ku we get 90% quality, well tonight its 85% right now.

Here are three sites with lists of FTA satellites and programming:

- 1) our own The List right here on our forum. Ku & C-band.

- 2) Global CM has a good list as well. Ku & C-band.

- 3) FTA List is Ku only, but very simplified for the beginner.

Eandr,

Once your dish and motor are "tweaked and peaked" to track the arc well, then you can scan each satellite.

Most, if not all, FTA receivers have a scan function where you may select to scan "FTA" channels ONLY. This will elliminate all the pay or encrypted channels from your channel list. Then you won't have to wade through all those encrypted channels to get to the FTA ones that you can watch.

If you don't use this setting when you begin the scan, you will end up with hundreds and maybe thousands of channels that you cannot watch since they are encrypted. Then you will have to go through and edit them out (delete them) and this can be tedious if you have to do so with your remote. A channel editor helps if you have a good editor program that works with your receiver. However, it is still a pain and you are better served if you scan only the freebies (non-encrypted channels) right off the bat.

Sometimes a pay channel may be running a special "free for the weekend" promotion and you might catch that, but very rare. Also, some FTA channels might be missed on the scan if they are falsely identified as a pay channel, but this is also very rare.
