Today is day 3 for me with DirecTV after 11 years with Dish. I have the HR24 and H24 receivers, whole house DVR with Choice Extra and all the HD. Between the system and this site for additional information, I am having a great time!
to do the 30 skip trick

smart seacrh
type in 30skip (just as I wrote it)
then scroll right to 30skip keyword
select it
then select all
it will say "none found" then press OK (or is it done I forget)

there ya go. 30 skip set up
Yeah that slip thing was annoying. As soon as I saw this, I changed it fast.
Just a question here though (not that I am going to do this but just to know). Can you go back to slip by doing "30SLIP"?
Speaking of which, I just received their first offer to come back:

We’re willing to do ALMOST ANYTHING to get you back.

We'll welcome you back with savings of over $370 while you still have your DISH Network equipment:
$120 off your programming
HD programming FREE for life
Cinemax at no cost to you for 1 month
Everyday Price Guarantee until 2013
Yep, I got the same e-mail yesterday. What a joke!

Here is a question though, the installer set my HR24 up to turn the TV on at the same time as the satellite receiver with one button push with either the large power button in the center or the on / off buttons off to the right side of the remote. Everything is hooked through my Yamaha A/V receiver and the volume is being controlled there. This is perfect!
Up in the bedroom with my H24 hooked directly to my Olevia 327V TV, I have to push the power button in TV mode then slide the mode switch over to satellite and hit power again. The smaller on / off buttons on the right are only working the satellite receiver. I was thinking the installer didn't get the model right so I tried to program this myself but it still works the same way.
Any pros out there who have an idea on how I can get this to do the one button push for powering on and off for me? Thanks in advance.

The front panel goes off, but if you have a DVR you have a hard drive that is always running so it can have a 45 minute buffer waiting for you to come home and want to catch up on what you may have just missed. :D

actually its 90 minutes....at least thats what it is on my R22's

It's like your favorite dog waiting for you at the front door with the newspaper and your slippers!

Got this too. I canceled yesterday when they refused to come fix my satellite service with out a 95 dollar fee. Gee offer me 120 dollars instead of comping the 95 dollar repair fee. Funny CSR said when do you want to cancel? I said " How about now since it doesn't work anyway". I was not even off my phone when I got an email saying I canceled.

Lol!

Now you have to return the receivers. Wait and see how you'll get a stern, almost accusatory phone call in a week or so reminding you that you need to send them back or you'll be charged.

I got that call two days after I had arranged the return through a CSR. Talk about a SECOND last nail in the coffin.

Wife said:"dish called and left you a nasty voicemail".

My two year commitment with Dish Network is coming up soon. I am just looking at my options now, I dont know if I will switch again or not, however, I have a question about DirecTV, maybe this thread will be appropriate for it. If I go with DirecTV, I want two HR24 receivers, that will be the only way I will go, as I have used the HR21 series in the past and it was clunky and slow, I hear the HR24 is much improved. Anyway, from reading here I see that they can not guarantee that you will get HR24's when you sign up and make the installation appointment. I see that the OP used Claude at the Dish Store, and he was able to get the HR24's. I would like to use the Dish Store, but I also want the AAA $10 off for 20 months discount, and they have a special number that you have to call. If I tell them to put on the order that I will not accept anything but HR24's and the installer comes with HR21's or something, can I just send him away until they can get the HR24's or cancel the order? I thought that some of you here might have some suggestions. Thanks

Ha! I didn't know the power buttons on the right could turn on/off both! Thanks!

Usually but not always. I am still waiting for a response on that one. But that seems to be the way it is intended to work. As I said earlier, it works perfect with my set up with the main TV / a/v receiver and HR24 receiver but not with the H24 w/ Olivea HDTV in the bedroom.

Most likely is the code for the Olevia TV. Did you try all the codes?

And yes that button works for me on all 6 TVs at home, one button to turn them on/off TVs and receivers.

You would need to try all codes. When I got a new TV the 1st code would control volume but not power off on the buttons on the right. A different code fixed that issue

It just works on my main TV.

Okay so maybe I'm dumb but how do you enter numbers? The only thing I am seeing during the set-up process on my H24 is to choose the make and model of your TV.

It's official ... not only do my wife and I love Direct, but we came home find this today:

doubleplay buffers 2 channels at once. Works great during NFL season when you can buffer both the CBS & Fox games and flip (and go back if you want) :)

So as example. I go to 668 (FS North) for the Twins game
hit down arrow to turn on the doubleplay
now I can flip to other channels and it still will buffer the Twins game
If I'm on say History and want to flip over to the Twins game and not lose the buffer on History I hit down arrow. Now I'm on 668 and History is still buffering
