Hello all. So I live in an apartment and my landlord has DISH in the house. The TV and receiver is downstairs and my bedroom is upstairs. I don't watch TV, so this has not yet been a problem. However, I do watch the NFL. So as the season approaches, I am trying to figure out how to get DISH in my room upstairs. The problem is that in order to get it through DISH i need to have my landlord call and arrange everything since they will only talk to the owner of the account. However, my landlord is super lazy and is never going to do this for me, despite my repeated attempts to get him to call. So my question is how do I circumvent this? Is there a way to get DISH in my room without going through the DISH people? I would be fine having it on my computer or on a TV... I know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing, and any and all help would be very much appreciated! Thank You!

If the receiver is a 722, call dish (or contact dirt) and order a sling adapter. Otherwise buy a slingbox.

You will need a network for this, but you can get a cheap wireless router to do the trick and use it only to stream the TV!

Couldn't you just get an account in your name?Pretty sure Dish would allow that.

If you want "NFL" but not "TV" there are probably other ways to get it. DirecTV would be preferable to Dish in this case, if you want "Sunday Ticket"

Disclaimer: I don't watch football at all :)

?Slingbox sounds interesting...

So, please bare with me... as I am really ignorant about this type of thing.. So we have wireless internet in the house through Verizon... So I buy the slingbox... then what? Connect it to both the wireless router and the DISH receiver... and then I magically have it on my computer?

EDIT: I looked into game rewind... but I gotta be able to watch them live! Thanks anyways...

Since you specifically said it would be through his "Account" what you want to do is illegal. You can't have the same Dish service at two different households, if you want an actual receiver in your room. Doesn't matter that it is in the same structure. Now if you meant as the owner of the building he has to call, just meet with him, dial the number, get a CSR on the phone and hand him the phone...... If it's only the NFL you want can you just use an indoor antenna go get the local channels? You are only going to get a few more games with Dish then with your own local channel. (Monday night football as an example)

this sounds like one of those "Weird" ones where its all one house. It sounds like the upstairs he is renting out. Now whether or not he shares say the kitchen area with the landlord doesnt make much of a difference but if the address is the same (no apt #) then it should be legal

hmm... good point about the antenna... hah. I wonder how well that will work up here in the hills of Vermont though... I think I will check that out first! And if anyone is interested in debating legality... The address has two A Frames. He lives in one A frame... I live in the other with my roommates... So there is no shared anything... although the address is the same...

I get your point, and I can see how that might not be questioned. I do think in reality someone renting and not a member of the family is a separate household.

I guess the way to find out is get the landlord to call Dish! But it does sound like you will need to get your own account. Hope you figure it out.

So if this question is not for this forum... that's fine... don't answer it... but.................... Which type of antenna should I get? Any recommendations... like I said before... I'm like 30 miles from the closest real city - Burlington, VT. Is this hopeless?

Go to TV Fool and input your address and see what it says. I'll tell you right now though, an indoor antenna at 30 miles is not looking good right off the bat. Try though because TV stations will locate their antenna in optimal locations for as many viewers as possible. They could be in between you and Burlington VT and cut the distance. On the other hand, they could be on the "other" side of Burlington VT from you too ! :D
