Last & Next Movie Watched

I haven't watched anything lately. Everything's been sitting or going back. Runner is one of those. I might watch Last Vegas Friday and Escape Plan Saturday (me guilty pleasure movies. Love em all).

Escape Plan

About what youd expect. POS Summit removed lossless audio from the rental...

Closed Circuit next.

Summit did the same thing for Ender's Game. It's really a shame because the DTS-MA HD 7.1 track was getting a lot of praise in the reviews I saw. I don't subscribe to Netflix by mail anymore because I just haven't had as much time to watch movies lately. Instead, I have just been going to my local Family Video to rent Blurays of the movies I really want to see. It's been working out well for me at $3 for a new release and they have a good selection of Bluray 3D too. I found out today that the rental version of Ender's Game didn't have lossless audio so I decided to skip the Bluray and just rent it on my Apple TV instead. Their 1080p picture quality is pretty good. The only reason I don't rent more movies that way is because it only has DD 5.1 audio. If studios keep gimping their rental disks I will either skip them or turn to Apple. If I'm not going to get the best version of the movie anyways I may as well take the convenience factor instead of making two trips to the video store.

If I wasn't a big fan of the book I would have skipped this movie out of principle. I do have to say, I think it was a pretty good representation of the book for the most part. There were some areas from the book that they completely missed that took away from the experience a little bit for me. For example, the movie pretty much ignored the important relationship between him and his siblings. It also glossed over the intensity of his training and his rise to the top. The book did a much better job of showing how much the other trainees hated him. It basically failed to explain the reason kids were going to be in charge of the military too. Skipping those details made the story lose a lot of its impact in my opinion. Of course, every movie adaptation of a book has to leave some things out in the interest of time.

I don't know how someone who hasn't read the book would feel about this movie. I had the background knowledge from the book to fill in the gaps so I really enjoyed it. I will be interested to hear what people who haven't read it thought.

I balance Netflix and purchases. Only the really good stuff, or the replay value (bayformers, marvel movies, etc...) get buys from me now. For example I rented escape plan because no way I was buying, so the loss of lossless is not a huge deal, but Enders Game was a buy. I never read the book, but it looked like a buy, plus I give the UV codes to my dad so he can get the movies.

Last: Last Vegas

Been sitting around. Finalyy got around to it. Movie was nothing special. It had a few funny moments.

Next: Ender's Game

I originally read the book (and series) when they originally came out. It's been so long, I'm not biased if it doesn't match. I just want to watch a few movie.

Ive heard it has great bass. I'll be watching tonight, first full movie since Ive had the new sub so hopefully its cool.

Since summit took the lossless sound out of rental copies I didn't bother driving to the store. I just rented it on my Apple TV and even there, with DD5.1 the sound and bass was good. I would imagine the lossless version is probably pretty nice.

Motley Crue: Carnival of Sins

Sucks. Audio is the worst Ive heard for a concert blu-ray. Noone should have even sang because you cant hear it, its like I unplugged my center channel.

Last: Machete Kills

Crude, senseless, violent, bloody. Loved it. Loved Sofia Vergara and her (if you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about) ;)

Next: Rush

Carrie 2013 - Never saw the first one, but I liked this one

IP Man Final Fight - Was ok, but not as good as the first two

All is Lost - I enjoyed it. Redford did a good job.

Probably watch Rush next, but we are doing Mardi Gras the next 4 days.
