Hi. I have been trying to understand why my parents new VIP 612 DVR does not offer DVOD movies in HD (not 1080p) while their new VIP 722 DVR does.

First, let me clarify that DVOD is the term Dish Network uses on their tech portal, tech.dishnetwork.com, and stands for Dish Video on Demand. These are movies that can be found using remote buttons Menu>9>2 or DVR>2 which bring you to the Movies-on-Demand interactive application. Alternatively, these same movies are listed in the program guide as multiple channels 501.

Also let me clarify that I am not including 1080p VOD, as that is a different animal. However, Dish Network offers DVOD movies that are HD, but not 1080p.

Having said that, the fact is some VIP 612 DVRs have DVOD in HD (not 1080p), some do not. The issue is with software versions. This I learned after talking to several technical support representatives at 800-333-DISH until I found one that understood what my concern is and had a definitve answer.

VIP 612 DVRs with software version L6.00 should be getting DVOD offerings in HD. VIP 612 DVRs with software version L6.01 cannot get DVOD in HD. This is all with the exception of 1080p VOD, which should be available on all Dish VIP DVRs.

Now while it seems strange that the "newer" or higher numbered software is less capable, the tech csr assured me that is the way it is. Furthermore, software L6.01 cannot be "downgraded" to L6.00. He was very impressed with my understanding of this issue. He also assured me that VIP 612 DVRs with software L6.01 will have DVOD in HD implemented in a future upgrade.

OK I have L601 on my Vip612, and I do get VOD 1080p but no other MOVIE ON DEMAND HD, But PPV HD Which is the same thing. And No I don't care about getting more Movies on demand ,when I have VOD,along with PPV , While being connected to the internet. Plus about 1300 other VOD offerings.

I think my VIP222 is dead

Are 625's in short supply?
