HI I have got my FTA system setup now and in a few weeks i want to try to subcribe to some ku programming, like american life tv. So i have the two feeds coming out of the 31" dish and i have one in the FTA receiver. I am going to get on ebay and find a used 4dtv receiver and put the other feed in here. I then need to program Galaxy 15 at 133 w into my FTA reciver and use an ab switch to go from the two different feeds. Other than subcribing to the channel is there any thing else i need to do? Dennis

You will need a dish bigger than 31" to get G1/G15, it's a C-band only satellite. The popular ku programming for 4dtv is on X4/G16 ku @ 99.0w.

So a 31' cannot pick up American Life tv on this satelite? Is it on another Satelite at 99w. I cant seem to pick up this satelite. What transponder number do i need to put in to help find it. Dennis

30" dish will get G4 KU...but G1 you need a C-band dish

addition: A 30" or larger will work for X4 (G4 KU side) but American Life TV you get when you sub to at least something...I have a 905 sidecar with a 30" dish and all I get free on KU is
OETA on AMC5
Music on G4 (X4)

Once I get the newest channel maps I will get Georgia PBS on AMC3

To get G1/G15 you need a C-Band dish

Dennis, we're currently subscribing to the Ku only package on "X4" aka Galaxy 16. Just as voomvoom and Iceberg said, you'd need a C band dish to be able to get any guide info from the 4D because they only send down the guide on G1. However, it is possible to use it on Ku only. The programming provider can send down "hits" to your receiver while it is on X4. Also, we have worked around the guide issue by using a media center PC to control the 4D receiver. Guide info is displayed on the media center, which is pulled from zap2it, and this also gives us a working pvr. The result is a much much better guide, pvr, and a very inexpensive subscription which fits our needs.

Best of luck.

And to find Ku G16, I usually use 12187 V, 8500. Nothing there in the clear, but it is a 24/7 TP.

Thaks for the advice guys. But like i asked, you can get american life on Galaxy 16 ku side? Dennis

Hey , I just want to get this straight. I am looking for G4at 99w with the transponder of 12187v 8500. And this will have american life plus some other ku channels. Dennis

And one more dumb question. My receiver has two satelites at 99w. One is g4r and the other is g4r(c). Which one is it? Dennis

you need a 4DTV AND subscribe to SOMETHING on X4...right now I have a unsubbed 905 on X4 and all I get is the music channels free

American Life is DCII (Digicipher II). You need a 920,922 or 905 to be able to at least sub to it
All other boxes (Coolsat, Fortec, Pansat, Captiveowrks, Viewsat, etc) are DVB

NO

The transponder posted above is to aim the dish at G4. There isnt much KU DVB on 99W except for a couple data TP's and the one posted above.

Reread my posts above about American Life. I'm sick of copy/pasting the same thing :)

You are getting map hits without C band?

You are getting map hits without C band?

You can activate channels on G-16 (X4) you do not need C-band for this but if you only have ku-band and have no freinds with c-band then you will need a used 4dtv that has the latest maps already loaded, once they are loaded you are ok for X4, you will have no guide and one risky thing is if new channels are added or some are removed you will need c-band again.

Currently the guide, maps and digital authorization for a new 4dtv is only on C-band, digital activation for a service are on both c/ku.

so true...

But on the plus side you dont have to do the channel maps very often. The 905 I have was really outdated (it didnt have the Denver nets on W1 in there) but a quick 10 minute download from G5 and voila...new maps :)
