Please forgive me for borring vets like you on satellites. I'm thinking of getting a Ku band unit. I live in an area that has trees and I get a good DirecTV signal but at certain times of the year it is a battle to readjust and get a good signal. I don't want to spend 300 bucks to get nothing. Also I installed my DirecTV multisatillite system myself and fond the birds. Is it just as easy with Ku bands? Cband is out of the question due to me wonderful HOA. Thank you for any input and advice.

So you are looking for a Smaller FTA dish?

I guess I don't know what I'm looking for. I was interested in getting a dish for the free KU band channels. Mostly for local channels in the U.S. I have a tree problem certain times of year with my DirecTV setup. Is a smaller dish for FTA better than bigger? Is finding the Ku broadcasting sats as easy as the directv sats? Forgive my ignorance and thank you for the advice.

If you are looking for free Locals, good luck there... there may be a few, I will move this thread to the FTA section since you do not want to have a BUD. They have the best Mods and Members/Viewers that are dedicated to FTA and can really steer you the Right way...(read forum rules in the FTA secton very carefully )

Hello and WELCOME to the Satelliteguys.US FTA area!

You will need at least a 30" dish, a KU LNBF and a new digital receiver.

I would do extensive research before buying a system. make sure you will be getting the channels you want, above all do a sight survey to make sure the trees are not blocking your line of sight to the satellites, or there is no point proceeding!

There are some network channels up there FTA, do your homework!

Many satellite installers will come over and do a sight survey and let you know exactly what satellites you can get and what satellites you will never get because of the trees!

(Make sure to ask if they have a sight survey tool before asking them to do a sight survey)

Thanks for the response and information. I think I will have some tree issues. I have DirecTV but at certain times of the year folage will start to cause problems. I guess I would have very limited shots at different satellites.
