May have been Rad but i think many of the affiliates are claiming at least on their site or direct to their users that THEY are not fighting or asking for money. BUT who knows who is accurate.

I used to listen to that station when I lived there.

The owner of KJZZ got permission from KJZZ-FM, as he also owns the Utah Jazz NBA team.

Always wondered why they used the call twice, I thought the FCC might be running low on call letters. KJZZ-FM is an NPR affiliate that plays jazz music overnight. They also have fitting domain names, kjzz.com and kjzz.org.

There has always been overlapping call letters across different types of stations. However, they are usually because they are owned by the same company and request it. Like, up in Flagstaff, we have KAFF-AM and KAFF-FM, but they play different music.

A Phoenix-guy should know that...remember KTAR and KOOL? TV and radio.

Actually I was a Tucson guy (1984-2000) :) I could pick up KJZZ pretty well down there, however. I was wondering since the TV KJZZ was in a different market.

You weren't expecting the OTA to disappear where you?
That was what my original question was. Seeing as how D* does their local channels according to a database and not what is actually out there and this station is no longer available via D*, I didn't know if they would take it out of their database completely or leave the OTA alone.

Does the guide still work for the OTA? On dish the OTA listings change to match the notice for the off air satellite version.
Yes, it still works fine. The slot for KJZZ simply reads "This station is no longer available," and its OTA slot has programming as usual.

See ksl.com - DIRECTV Suspends Transmission of Utah Jazz Games

"December 31, 2008 (Salt Lake City) --A retransmission agreement between DIRECTV, a national satellite TV provider, and KJZZ-TV, a local independent TV station that carries the Jazz basketball games, local sports and syndicated programming, will be suspended at midnight tonight. Viewers who want to see the Utah Jazz games carried on DIRECTV again should contact DIRECTV at 1-800-531-5000.

According to Chris Baum, General Manager of KJZZ-TV, "DIRECTV has denied KJZZ TV a retransmission consent agreement. They have deemed that the 16 premiere Jazz games produced in High Definition and aired by KJZZ are of no value to their customers. Although DIRECTV profits from KJZZ programming by way of monthly satellite fees to their subscribers, it has never paid for programming created or provided by KJZZ. We have established fair and reasonable agreements with the other satellite providers as well as many local cable companies. We are shocked by their decision."

Title incorrect, I've asked a mod to correct it. Sorry

According to the above Directv does not pay anything to KJZZ.

To paraphrase that statement, "Although KJZZ would profit from Directv carriage because it would increase their viewer base, resulting in higher fees from advertisers, they are demanding that Directv pay them an unreasonable amount for carriage"

I'm sure that if KJZZ opted for must-carry status that Directv would be happy to have them back.

Yep, these are station ploys IMHO, each of them have likely done or failed to do something that resulted in this action and they are trying to spin blame.

And I'm making another post to let you all know: DO NOT start in with whatever your gonna say to me.

Dish Network already pays the station. Read that. DISH NETWORK. Cheapo Charlie is more willing to pay stations then Darth Malone.

In 2-3 years, if Darth Malone hasn't sold D* by then, he may just need to use a golden parachute...

So you're free to post whatever you want be we can't reply?

But hey, if one provider carries a station you want to watch but the other doesn't, then you're free to switch. How boring would it be if every provider had the EXACT same line up?

Now where's that ignore button???

I don't think it's a matter of 1 station or two.

And I said what I said due to BS answers like the one you gave. People give you D* apologists the truth and you ignore it.

I simply said don't tell me stuff that's obviously not true, because that's what you'll do.

The simple fact is, Dish Network already pays them. I gave the facts, and all you guys could do was tell me to go to another provider.

Hit that ignore button, your already ignoring reality.

how are we ignoring it? Because KJZZ states Comcast & Dish pay for the channel and DirecTv doesn't? Where's DirecTv's side? If they are asking for the same amount as Dish & Comcast give them, then yeah DirecTv may look bad. But if they want more then what??

welcome to the internet. People will debate anything :)

and I wouldnt call myself a D* apologist. I don't have D* (nor E*) :D
