Just switched to Dish, is my experience typical?

No, I posted that in this thread. OTA is barely better, you would not usually notice unless you were looking for it, up close to the TV, this on a 55". And I see Fios and Brighthouse all the time when I am in Florida, and Uverse and Charter in CT, Dish is better than Uverse and Charter, easily, maybe the same as Brighthouse, Fios might have better PQ, but not all channels. Direct TV about the same give or take - perhaps a little sharper, but to my eyes maybe just a tad less liveliness to the picture - but that's being super critical. If dish were that bad, you would see us complaining or telling you it's just Dish. If it's as bad as you say (I have no reason not to believe you) something else is going on. Or if it were just the locals maybe some kind of explanation, but all channels just says to me something is wrong somewhere in the set-up.

I noticed the same things when I switched a number of years ago here in Minneapolis.
But it's better than having my cable signal go out when the temps rise in the summer!

A quirk in the VIP series - don't know about the Hopper, have you set it to 420P, then go back and set it to 1080I/P? If not try that.

Last year when I got my Hopper the PQ was really bad. I saw a post on the dbs board that if you set the hopper to 420p and then go back to setup and set it to 1080 i-p it will fix the pq and it did. Now I don't know about the locals he is having trouble with. Most locals that I have seen on any sat-cable were very good.

Just to close the loop on this--the technician said that the signal levels were fine, that the wiring within my condo was fine, and that the quality was just what it is for the local channels. Now the question is whether this is worth paying a $400 cancellation fee over.

It's disappointing that Dish Network is unable to get clear HD local channels. For anyone with the OTA adapter--does your antenna pull in better quality HD on local channels than your satellite?

The OTA can be better, some of them compress their signal a lot too. If you were getting a lot better picture with cable then an OTA should give a better picture.
