OK Here is my report and observations.
As soon as I got home, opened the box and found the following:
HR24-500 HDDVR UNIT
RC65RX Remote
One HDMI Cable
One Component Cable
One Composite Cable
Hooked up the HR24 to my SWM5 LNB via 8x1 switch, so a single cable for both tuners.
Hooked up my external 2TB HDD that I had on the retired HR20.
Note that I did have some recordings on it, mostly shows I've seen but kept there. All my scheduled recordings settings were also inside that same 2TB HDD.
OK, so powered on the HR24 & 2TB External and the fun began.
The HR24 asked Language settings, then it stopped at some blue screen saying to call and activate (in order to continue with the setup process) So I went ahead and called. After 20min or so the Blue screen changed to Updating Guide.
So after a few minutes, It went to congrats you are done screen and bam CNN was on.
So I checked the FIRMWARE it had and was dated 11-20-2009. So I was about to set my FAV channels when something popped and said, DATA DOWNLOAD. So I pressed OK and rebooted.
When it booted back up it was downloading the newest firmware (0x3ba). As soon as that was done, then I set all my FAV channels.
I clicked on LIST and as I thought, all recording were deleted. So it shows 100% space left.
Then I went to setup my scheduled recordings, and BAM all those settings were actually saved from 2TB HDD from the HR20 and transferred to the HR24 which made it so much easier for me to set all my favorite shows to be recorded.
OK so I checked around the unit and immediately I can feel the difference in movement thru the settings and menus. All these results are based from HR20 to HR24:
Channel changing much faster.
Moving around in the different settings with in the menu, faster.
manually Programming a recording via the quick menu guide, extremely faster!.
Overall the feel of it is much much faster then the HR20. I was amazed how quickly it moves around with no hesitations and or hangs like the HR20 has.
Fan is quiet and runs very cool.
So I rate my HR24 a 10. I will do more tests as I continue checking this puppy out tonight.
Hope this make you buy one, or more.
