Just got Yellow Card

Perhaps this will end up delaying the shutdown of the Nagra 1 stream for those receivers until all the yellow cards work with all the receivers.

When someone has experienced the issue as tsaylor described has any of you lost any timers or DVR Events?

They don't need a software update in order to do that. Once all the cards are distributed for that model of receivers they can turn off the Nagravision 1 datastream for that model ONLY (and from what I understand that is exactly the way DISH is doing it. Some model receivers are now only using the Nagravision 2 datastream).

I don't think you've got it quite right. Yes, I imagine some receivers are only using the Nagravision 2 stream, but that's probably because the yellow cards only decode the Nagra2 stream. AFAIK, the only thing that's been shut off is the Nagravision 1 datastream for the satellite HDTV channels. I suppose E* could do it as you say, but looking at their record with software...I'm not really sure they could pull it off. (For example, I still have a blue card in my 721 and no yellow card in hand to swap. If they shut off the Nagra1 stream my 721 wouldn't work, thereby greatly aggravating this AEP + more subscriber of many years...and I'm sure I'm not alone here.) More likely, E* will send a de-subscribe command to the blue cards and continue to send out both Nagra1 and Nagra2 datastreams until the entire cardswap is completed. ;)

And that is the right answer!

Another 721 user here that just received the yellow card. I just swapped out the blue card with this new yellow and called Dish - 10 minutes later everything is working just as before - no installation issues at all.

Well, the fun continues. I received the new yellow card. Called to activate it. I get this message saying the card doesn't go with this receiver, yet all my programming is active, just can't watch any of it. Anyway, the support guy says at first that I will have to swap my 721. I tell them I've got 70 hours of programming recorded that I don't really want to lose and ask if I can just send it in for repair. He goes away for a bit, then says that they will just re-activate my blue card. He says all they changed with this card was the number of PPV's before the receiver phones home is changed from 5 to 4.

Kind of strange if you ask me. Guess we'll see how long the blue card works.

Scarey....

Hmmm, I suppose that yellow card in my old (retired) HM-DSR100 is worthless, but I doubt Dish will bother sending me a blue card. If I got around to selling it, would Dish be nice and send a free blue card to the buyer?

Arrg! Chromatic-Dyslexia! I meant to say my retired HM-DSR100 has the original blue card. It would need a new yellow card if it were put back in service. Would Dish be nice and send the new owner a yellow card for free, or would they treat it like a lost card?

Dish CSRs are completely clueless. COMPLETELY. So I got a used ebay 6000 with a blue card, but want the HDPAK. Call up, activate it, mention its got the old card and need the new card for the HD channels. "Hmm, I've never heard of that. Ok sir, your programming should be working"

Next call, to tech support. Ask for the new card for HD channels. "Hmm, lets reset your reciever"

So at this point I'm about to fly out to wherever they store these jokers and plug my blue card up one of their rear ends.

Second guy transfers me to the HD specialist. Same deal, reset receiver. "Sir, is your tv on the component input?" YES I TOLD YOU I CAN HEAR AND SEE THE FRICKEN GUIDE JUST NOT THE CHANNEL. THIRTY, yes 3-0, minutes later, mr. advanced says "hold on one second"

"Sir, you will need a new smartcard for the HD channels, we can send you one for $50"

Holy crap, maybe the mic on my phone wasnt working, but i swear I told this idiot that about 50 minutes ago. "Oh really, well thats what I thought, send it on out (MORON)"

Sorry for the rant, but how the hell did they win the JD power award? I explained to no fewer than 4 CSRs exactly what I needed, and it took about 2 hours to get it. All four had NO CLUE what a yellow card was, until some manager type person explained it to that last guy. Anyways, good luck to all of you trying to get support with the card swap, you're gonna need it :shocked

I own two 721's. I decided to swap out/activate the yellow cards one call at a time in case of any problems. First call to "Samantha" lasted less than 2 minutes and within 10 minutes, the first receiver worked fine. Called back to activate the second receiver and talked to "Grace". That conversation lasted almost 20 minutes during which time she repeatedly apologized for the delay due to "computer problems". She asked for my name, address, phone number, customer number and my PIN number. I gave all except the PIN which she INSISTED was on the letter that came with the cards (which it isn't, shouldn't be and I wouldn't give it to her if it was!). Eventually she told me to call back in 3 hours after the computers were updated. I hung up and immediately called back and talked to the Samantha (same CSR from first call) and was all set in 90 seconds. Advice: if you call and get GRACE--throw down the phone and run!!!

Those are both great CSR horror stories. I really wish E* would make sure all CSRs "get the memo" in whatever way it has to trickle down through their organizational/outsourcing tiers and around the globe. And send eight different bosses by the cubicle of any CSR that fails to read the new memo.

I understand your pain. im a lease customer.. bought a HD tv and they wouldnt let me get an 811 in any way shape or form even the Exec offices. So I went out and bought it. Well after 4 phone calls and countless CSR's i got the non lease receiver activated.

Well, A_Noland and I seem to have exactly the same scenario, although mine has gone from bad to worse and I am thoroughly peeved at this point!

The first card I received gave me error 19, which is a "Card not inserted correctly" message. The second card they sent a few days later gave me error 20, saying the card is not valid with this receiver. After a total of 8 phone calls and over 3 hours on the line (with the same troubleshooting steps attempted multiple times each), they reactivated my blue card again and ordered me a third yellow card.

So...the blue card worked fine for an hour or so, and then suddenly I started getting error 104, something about a "serious error has been detected". Now the receiver won't function at all, not even to watch recorded programs.

I've had no TV for two days now, have spent hours on the phone, and I am still nowhere close to a solution. I'm furious, and I really don't relish the though of spending another few hours on the phone going through the same standard troubleshooting script!! At this point I'm also fearing that my receiver is toast. Mind you, I never had a problem before I attempted to upgrade to the yellow smart card.

Serenity now!

When will dish switch to Nagra 2? I just can't wait for this to happen, so I can laugh at all the hack boys on my block, there are many of them, and I hope they all get shut down :)

Me too! I'm just positive as soon as the hackers are all shut down that my Dish bill will decrease substantially. :haha

Dish is already using Nagra 2, its just that they still have Nagra 1 on as well for the receiver model numbers that have not been completely swapped yet.

I am beginning to think it's the lastest generation of dimwitted teenagers.

We just hired a new dispatcher. I was on the road and didn't have the cell number for a tech i needed to get in contact with, so i called dispatch.

"Can you transfer me to Tech A's cell?"
"Why?"
"I need his bundt cake recipie. Why the hell you think I need to talk to him! I got info on the job he's on."
"oh."

Very bad pixellation on Dish HD channels ...

Reasons why you should NOT get a 522.
