Mangini, IMO, got a raw deal, but Sandra made a good point about Mangini's lack of emotion.
In some of his press conferences, he seemed monotone, a far cry from Mr. "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!"

Mangini was totally flat. No life, no emothion, no rah rah...
The Jets were ridding high at 8-3.
You get team emotionaly ready for the next games. I do believe they had the tools to make some noise in the playoffs.
Yes, Favre made some bonehead throws but the coach needed to possibly real him in like he did in winning earlier games.
Being a huge Jet fan from way back, Favre was the next comming of Namath.
I do think he might be done. He seemed to nothing in the tank at the end.

Managini, well, I put him right next to Herm Edwards, Al Groh, Walt Michaels and even Joe walton.

Nah, emotion from a head coach is overrated; talent from a coaching perspective and talented and emotional players on the field wins games. The Jets weren't going to win more just because Mangini had a few tantrums on the sidelines.
Tom Landry and Chuck Noll from back in the day were pretty "bland" during interviews, but knew how to motivate a team to win. Tony Dungy and Bill Belichick appear relatively calm on the outside, but have obviously have experienced much success.
I feel Mangini was simply not ready to be a HC in the NFL. The Favre acquisition sealed his fate though because it looks obvious that with #4 and the big money spent during the offseason, the plan was that Mangini was gone if the Jets weren't in the playoffs. How many teams improve their record by 5 wins over the previous year and fire their coach??
Good point. But its the way they flopped in the end. It was a total collapse.
Coach has to take the blame for that. Also his defense just dissapeared.

I'm not saying Mangini shouldn't take the blame for their collapse; it was his responsbility to right the ship. I'm just questioning the importance of emotion on the part of the HC.
It's all about winning. If the Jets had not collapsed and made the playoffs no one would be complaining about his "lack of emotion" then...
Let's not forget Mr. King of all Emotion himself.... Bill Belichick.

Apparently Belickick's boys knew how to "look" the part, but didn't know how to actually execute the way their Czar taught them.

He has a point, no playoff win in ten years? I dont think many other teams would tolerate that either. Not with the caliber of team Denver puts on the field and his past success.
