I wonder if the apparent failure of a TP on 61.5 threw their plans off. It cuts down on HD LIL for the NE/FL since they have trouble seeing 129 from there.

I dont think it does as they have plenty of room to spare on rainbow one. Everyone kindof forgets that bird is upthere along with echostar 3. Im sure rainbow one has a spare tp on it somewhere :)
 
I suspect most of the HD Lil was going to orginate from R1 and not E3 anyways. (remeber Spotbeams on R1)

E3 only loss was the transponder, but with them moving SD Lil onto a one dish solution I think E* will be ok for now.

(I really dont miss the international "info" channel 580 anyways) :)

Don't you think they would have turned on one by now? I've heard several say that R1 isn't capable of transmitting on E3's frequencies though.

But from an engineering standpoint why would you design something that would have gaps in the spectrum it can transmit on?
 
It depends what they plan for R1. If they turn R1 into spot beam mode, they will of course have a lot of HD-LIL ability. But of course they have some issues:

E3 is fading out. If R-1 is in spot mode the CONUS E3 is going to hurt what they can carry on 61.5. 3 lost TPs to date.

VOOM on R-1 would have to be moved to E3

They would need uplinks for the spots on R-1

So, it is hard to say what they are going to do. If they do not turn on R-1 spots and use it for CONUS they will have 3 less TPs still out on E3, or 3 LIL HD cities without coverage because of the outage. Yes they have spare capacity on R-1 right now, but using it for national coverage eliminates a ton of LIL HD capacity it could have in spot mode.

They need to get busy and build a cheap E3 replacement.

Perhaps the FCC made them do it that way?

NYC, Chicago, LA and a few other citys were uplinked last week or the week before for HD DNS.. (big 4 only)

I dont know... but this uplink report was a pain in my @ss this morning with all these channel moves :)

it was like 50 something moves... If they do use if for hd... atleast bring ESPN2 and UHD over to 110
 
Olympics HD would seem a possibility due to the temporary existance. The ESPN2 HD and Universal HD do not seem likely as they will need the empty TP to transition to EchoStar 10.
