My Mom lives about 15 miles east of Rogers, AR and is getting her NW Arkansas locals via D*, but would like to receive the locals from Springfield, MO.

If I am reading the coverage maps correctly she is well within the inner circle of the Springfield spot beam, but.....

Again, if I am reading correctly it looks like the NW AR locals are coming from 129W, while the Springfield MO locals are coming from 110W.

Her dish is a Slimline, with what appears to be a single LNBF, and I assume it is pointed at 129W?

What would it take for her to get the Springfield locals via D*, or is it even possible to do this "move" without multiple dishes/LNBFs?

Are you working with Directv or Dish? Reason I ask is you mention a slimline which would be DIrectv but then also mention 110 & 129 which is Dish

If you're working with Directv Springfield is on 99W spotbeam TP20. The easiest way for your mom to check is this

menu
parental/favs/setup
system setup
satellite
view signal strength
use the + button to go to 99(s) and look at signal on TP20

Now I was gonna say that Springfield is only on 99W so you need a HD receiver....but then I notice Ft Smith is also a HD receiver only unit so she would be fine

The setup your mom has would work fine. The one LNB is actually 3 built into one...it sees 99, 101, 103
99 is what the current and new locals are on (and national HD)
101 is SD channels
103 is HD

scrap what I wrote. Springfield locals the DMA is all the way to the MO/AR border. SInce your mom is just into AR the spotbeam will work

Duh.

I didn't notice the dropdown said Echostar/Dish, I thought I was looking at the Directv info.

And now that you mention it, while I'm not as familiar with "eyeballing" the arc at her place as I am at my house, I didn't think her dish was pointing that far west (129W).

Thanks Ice, I will call her and get her to check her signal on that tp, she would really like to get those SW MO locals.

I put an OTA antenna up on her tower and she can get some of the Springfield channels now but the Fox affiliate is moving and she will never get it after that, she's too far away from the new tower location.

edit: just read your additional info, will call her tonight and tell her to commence "packing"....THANKS!!!

she'll get these channels (all in HD except CW)

NBC KYTV 3
CBS KOLR 10
CW KCZ 15
PBS KOZK 21
FOX KSFX 27
ABC KSPR 33
MNT KRBK 49

Perfect, she is going to be excited! :D

That KRBK is where Fox (KSFX 27) is moving to, they are LPTV now, but are (allegedly) building a new tower about 40 miles north of Springfield.

Problem is, it is about 90 degrees away from the rest of the towers for most of the Springfield viewers, going to be a bunch of PO'd OTA viewers when they figure out they can't get the Fox NFL games this fall.

Just tell them to turn the antenna a bit, they'll be fine ... unless they have no router !

I tried to step her through this over the phone this morning, and since I couldn't see what she was seeing it was tough to know what was going on but, if I understood properly, she wasn't able to see anything on tp 20.

She was seeing signal levels on tps 1-8 & 9-14........ but tps 15 & 16, and tps 17-24 were "N/A".

Will she have to make the "move" before tp 20 will show any signal?

Also, how did you determine that the Springfield locals are on 99W tp 20? I guess I don't know how to operate the SatMaps chart, I couldn't find that info (and couldn't find the NW AR/Fort Smith beam tp location either).

I was able to find that info, and look at the beam coverage map for the Dish satellites, but not for Directv.

I did verify that she has a HD receiver, and I think she has the Total "Choice" package, w/locals.

I cehcked mine and she was on 99 (c) which is CONUS transponders. She needed to hit the + button once more to go to 99 (s) which shows the spotbeam signals

no they will show regardless

I've got a spreadsheet that was at "the other site" and it shows that info. I attached the pertinent info for Springfield. They use to be on 73W which requires a 2nd 18" dish but Directv has been moving folks who have a setup (2 separate dishes) for a year or so now (they are vacating that satellite) and giving them the setup like your mom has (slimline and HD receivers)

Ah, I see where you mentioned "99(s)" above, I understand now. We will try it again tonight, and will report back.

Thanks again! :)

you'll be fine

Looking at a DMA map the county next to mom (Carroll) is in the Springfield DMA so the signal reaches her no issues ;)

Wow, I didn't realize the Spfd DMA was that close. She is only about 3 miles from Carroll Cty.

Any suggestions for the "move" call to Directv? From what I have searched and read here on the forum you just call and ask to change your service address? Does she need to ask for any particular department?

I live in the Springfield DMA, could she use my address, or would it be better to just invent one?

I think she pays online, but if not she wanted to leave her billing address as is.

I know she is worried that they will start asking her questions about the "move" and she wouldn't know how to answer.

Also, I went a dug in my LNBF bin, I had 2 that look just like the one on my Mom's Slimline. One had a totally opaque cover but the other one had a clear cover and I could see that it is made to see 3 sats at once.

nope customer service is fine. You might want to wait until Tuesday (holiday weekend and all). Pretty much this line works everytime (the less they know the better)

Hi Directv. I moved and need to change the address on file. There was already a dish there. The receiver is hooked up and all channels are working but I think I should get different locals
(Rep will ask for new address)
Give the rep new address....."Also please keep the billing address as it currently is"
(most reps are cool with that...some wonder. I just say thats where the bills get paid)
Rep changes address...new locals start popping in and old ones leave. (sometimes a red button reboot makes it quicker)

Thats it.......couple notes
-make sure she doesnt have a favorite set up at the time as the new channels wont show in the favorites until you add them (done that )
-if she (or you) check the acct on line if they screw up the address you can always change the billing back with no issues

unless you have DIrectv she could use your address. That would be the easiest

yep they'll leave it as her current address

I know she is worried that they will start asking her questions about the "move" and she wouldn't know how to answer.
she could always add you to the account and you call and do it ;)

Thanks for spelling it out for me, I've never had any experience with Dish or Direct. I will have her add me to the account and set things up the next time I am down there. :)

That would probably work the best...I could say have her add you then just call up D* and change it. If there is an issue usually a red button reboot fixes it (that basically is the same thing as unplugging it)

Yeh, I thought about having her add me and doing it "remotely" but I know she would rather I be there, just in case it needs a reboot.

It's only a 2 hour drive and I mow her yard so I'll be there soon anyway.

It's crazy that if she lived 3 miles to the east she wouldn't have to do this.
